What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Swim Coach position at Williams County Family YMCA?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Swim Coach is responsible for assisting in helping each swimmer improve their technique/endurance/speed, as well as building a relationship with all swimmers, encouraging sportsmanship, and ensuring all swimmers are following the pool rules and core values. Your goal is to motivate and develop individual swimmers to be the best swimmer they can be. You will be a motivational figure who assists in organizing the swim team program to help build team cohesiveness and instruct swim participants. The Assistant Swim Coach plays a vital role in helping create a positive, safe, and competitive environment where athletes are encouraged to grow in skill, confidence, character, and teamwork.

KEY AREA OF STRATEGIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND SUCCESS:
1. Attend practices and meets
2. Assist Head Coach in reviewing and evaluating participant performance, monitoring participants during competition and practice, and keeping the Head Coach informed of the athletic performance of students
3. Support the Head Coach in daily practice planning and implementation
4. Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by head coach
5. Be able to teach the four basic strokes of competitive swimming to participants
6. Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to swimmers of all skill levels
7. Assist the Head Coach with instructing students in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
8. Help provide a safe and effective practice environment
9. Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, coaching staff, and YMCA leadership
10. Assist with strategy to conduct a successful swim meet
11. Engage in active listening with team members in order to build relationships, understand each individual’s goals and interests, and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals
12. Know and review all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures
13. Ensure all equipment is properly stored and the pool area remains clean and organized
14. Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals at all times
Requirements:
18 years of age
Lifeguard / First Aid / CPR certification or willingness to obtain during the swim season
Knowledge of competitive swimming
Experience working with children
Pay: $11.00 per hour
