Summary:
The mortgage Underwriter will be responsible for the day-to-day underwriting process including rendering credit decisions on incoming applications, underwriting mortgage commitments and verifying supporting documentation.
Essential Functions:
- Underwrites large or more difficult/complex residential loans
- Ensures compliance with appropriate company and secondary market, investor standards
- Examines loan documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Works with loan originator or production staff to secure all required documents
- May provide training and direction to more junior staff
- Have authority to withdraw and decline loans
- Responsibilities include one or several types of mortgage lending (i.e.: conventional, government backed, etc)
Additional Responsibilities:
- May develop and recommend modifications to underwriting and production procedures
- May respond to individual and investor audits
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Widely recognized as an underwriting expert
- Advanced computer skills
- Builds and manages extensive networks of internal and external relationships
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
- Understanding of legal, regulatory, economic, competitive and technology environments, which may affect real estate lending programs
- In-depth expertise in multiple underwriting specializations including some FHA or VA experience
- DE and Non-QM experience is a plus
- 5 years underwriting experience required
- 4 years college degree preferred or equivalent experience
- Spanish speaking a plus
Physical Demands:
Position requires individual to sit mostly at a desk, answering phone with some bending, reaching, walking, and occasional squatting. There is constant handling, grasping, feeling, hearing, and use of a mouse as a repetitive motion. Maximum requirement to lift is no more than 20 lbs.
Hours of Work:
NOT a remote position. This role is in office, standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm with regular and predictable attendance.
Salary : $65,000 - $80,000
