What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Coordinator - SOAR+ position at William Rainey Harper College?

Characteristic Duties:

Provides a full range of retention, engagement and direct student support services to support the holistic needs of SOAR program scholars, addresses and resolves barriers to success, and serves as an advocate to staff and faculty in the program.

Facilitates, leads, and manages the SOAR Inauguration, SOAR Graduation, Summer Cookout, Workshops, and Excursion events each a

Manages the SOAR Peer Mentors that connects scholars that are enrolled in the program and aids in their transition to the academic, extracurricular and social aspects of the college.

Conducts classroom visits as needed to provide important updates to students and faculty, and to provide additional layer of support in the classroom environment.

Maintains strong connections with SOAR , meeting with them individually and in cohort groups, communicating with them frequently and tracking their progress.

May teach a SOAR Program FYS course section each Fall semester annually and support collaborative updates of curriculum and/or programming for the course.

Creates new workshops and initiatives specifically focused on the retention and completion of programmatic requirements of the SOAR Program for all scholars, which complement and enrich the academic experience, promote identity exploration and enhance leadership skills.

Regularly collaborates with SOAR Program Advisors to identify barriers to full participation in the curricular and co-curricular environments and determine action plans.

Demonstrates strong cultural competencies and awareness of diverse needs and serves as an advocate to empower SOAR Program mentors, advisors, and scholars.

Develops and manages SOAR Program communication strategies via social media and collaborates with Harper’s Communications team.

Represents the SOAR Program at student outreach events (i.e., open houses, activity fairs, information sessions, Future Hawks, Area of Interest Experience Days, etc.) as necessary.

Collaborates with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to create assessments, surveys, etc. for the reporting of key metrics of the SOAR Program.

Works with a variety of technology tools (i.e., Salesforce, Banner, eSARS, Starfish, Degree Works, Student Information System, MyHarper Student Portal, etc.) and is able to use these tools effectively to assist students.

Provides consultation to faculty/staff as needed in service of supporting historically underrepresented students.

Serve as liaisons for the SOAR Program across the College.

Participates in College and Divisional Committees as appropriate.

Demonstrates excellent oral, presentation, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrates empathetic and professional rapport with students, parents, faculty, and staff throughout the College.

Other responsibilities as deemed necessary to support the operations of the SOAR Program.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

Education: Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field.

Experience: Minimum of three years’ experience working in Student Affairs, Student Activities, Academic Advising or related area at the postsecondary level. Experience working with diverse student populations required. Ability to engage and relate well to all segments of the campus. Experience planning programs from design to implementation. Must have strong communication skills, verbal and writing. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and social media and marketing mediums required.


General Function:

This role provides outreach, guidance, and programming for scholars enrolled in the SOAR Program. Under the supervision of the Director of the SOAR Program, the Coordinator focuses on creating strong partnerships and collaboration with SOAR Program Academic Advisors, Faculty Mentors, and Peer Mentors, and develop programming, events, and workshops based on supporting the holistic and diverse needs of scholars in the program.
