Reporting to the Director of Pre-college Youth Programs, the Summer Youth Program Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality academic enrichment in literacy and/or math to students entering grades 3 through 5. The instructor will implement engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons based on a designated curriculum and provide a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment. In addition to instructing elementary students, the instructor will serve as a mentor to high school aspiring educators, guiding them as they assist with lesson planning and classroom activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Plan and implement daily academic enrichment lessons in literacy and/or math using Scholastic’s LitCamp and/or MathCamp curriculum.
- Adapt instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs and styles of students in grades 3–5.
- Create a supportive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment that fosters academic growth and positive relationships.

Mentor and guide high school aspiring educators who are assisting in the classroom:
- Provide direction and modeling in lesson co-planning, instructional support, and student engagement.
- Offer regular feedback to help develop their skills as future educators.
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure smooth daily operations and a cohesive learning experience for all participants.
- Monitor and support student progress, behavior, and well-being throughout the program day.
- Participate in weekly program meetings and daily planning sessions.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and program administrators.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Valid elementary (K-6) teaching license.
- Three or more years of experience teaching literacy and/or math at the elementary level.
- Strong classroom management, instructional planning, and organizational skills.
Preferred qualifications
- Ability to mentor and support high school students interested in teaching careers.

- Commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate teaching practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and maintain a positive, professional demeanor.
Part-Time Project Employee Hourly Rate - $50.00/hour
