Job Overview
Title of Position: Armed Security, Art Handler, Gallery Preparator
Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Director of Security and Property Management, Deputy Chief of Security or the Executive Director in the absence of the Director of Security and Property Management and/or Deputy Chief of Security regarding all security issues and facility and operational matters.
Summary: Security, Art Handling, Art Transportation, Gallery Preparation, under the supervision of the Director of Security and Property Management. Primary responsibility will be for the safety of art, staff, and visitors at all times at the Museum and on the Museum’s property, Transportation of Art, Art Handling, and preparing galleries for installations for new exhibits. Will work closely with curatorial staff in scheduling art transports and exhibit changeovers. In addition, off-site events, particularly Mistletoe Market, fall under this position’s oversight as relates to security, i.e., working with primary security staff of other facilities to plan for WKMA coverage. Security, Art Handler, Gallery Preparator also is responsible for ensuring that all operating systems related to environment, security and fire suppression are in good working order at all times and that WKMA is in compliance with all regulations relative to the American Alliance of Museums’ standards and with local and state standards. This position reports to the Director of Security and Property Management, Deputy Chief of Security, and/or the Executive Director and will work closely with curatorial staff and any other staff specific to various areas of the building’s use.
Must be 21 yrs of age.
Must be able to obtain DCJS Armed Security Officer w/Arrest Authority.
Essential Duties:
Security:
- Responsible for ensuring on-site security at WKMA
- Overseeing the work of contractors, and vendors
- Assist visitors as needed
- Monitor surveillance equipment
- Monitoring quality control systems
- Operation and management of life safety systems
Gallery Prep: Work with Curatorial staff, Maintenance, and the Director of Security and Property management in the preparation of galleries as follows:
· Painting
· Placement of cases relevant to curator’s specifications
· Assist curatorial staff with constructing new case/props
· Assist curatorial staff with installing exhibitions when needed
Art Transportation:
· Drive to locations schedule by curatorial staff for art pick up or drop off
· Assist curators in packing art when needed
· Provide security during packing, unpacking, and transport of art
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Security and Property Management or the Executive Director

Pay: $33,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
