The HR Manager is primarily responsible for the daily functions of the Human Resources Department while partnering with college and HR Leadership to implement HR strategies that support institutional goals. This role handles all core human resource functions, including talent acquisition, payroll, employee relations, compliance, performance management, benefits administration, and organizational development. The HR Manager serves as a trusted advisor to leaders across the College, ensuring consistent application of policies, legal compliance, and exceptional employee experience.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Recruitment
- Monitor recruitment activities and move candidates through the hiring process
Benefits Enrollment and Payroll
- Process payroll for faculty and staff
- Assist new hires with all benefit enrollments (when eligible)
- Help with organizing benefits informational sessions annually to increase awareness about benefits offered and provide opportunity to educate employees.
- Provide details related to benefits package and updates annually
Title IX:
- Function as the college’s Title IX coordinator
Reporting and Operations
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ACA and related regulations
- Manage communication of all terminations and status changes as necessary
- Serves as contact for unemployment processing. Completes all requests and reconciles unemployment invoices.
- Serve as an HR liaison for employees across the College to assist with policy interpretation.
- Audit employee files to ensure they are complete and up to date
- Perform exit interviews with those employees who are separating, retiring, etc. from William Jewell College.
Performance Management
- Assist with investigations and corrective actions for all employees as well as facilitation of termination meetings
- Maintain the organizational chart for new employees and as employees depart
- Provide annual training on the performance management process at William Jewell
- Be the point of contact for all performance management questions
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required
- Five or more years of progressing Human Resources experience
- Certifications such as PHR or SHRM-CP are preferred
