What are the responsibilities and job description for the Handle Shop Tech I position at William Henry LLC?
Who We Are: Crafting Art, Building Legacies
At William Henry, we don’t just create objects - we sculpt legacies. We are an elevated, American luxury brand dedicated to crafting functional works of art, from hand-forged Damascus steel pocket knives and premium kitchen cutlery to high-end men's jewelry, watches, and accessories. We build our heirloom-quality pieces using extraordinary, rare materials like fossilized mammoth teeth, dinosaur bones, meteorites, and exotic burls.
Behind every stunning piece is our dedicated workshop team. We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Handle Shop Tech I to join our manufacturing studio and help shape the tangible, tactile heart of our iconic pocket knives.
The Role: Crafting the Touchpoint of Art
As a Handle Shop Tech I, you will work directly with our raw materials, transforming them into the beautiful, ergonomic handles that define our custom folding knives. Under the guidance of our Production Manager and Handle Shop Lead, you will shape, buff, and finish premium materials to exacting specifications. This is an entry-level artisan production role perfect for someone who is detail-driven, loves working with their hands, and is eager to learn specialized craft skills in a high-end production environment.
What You'll Do (Essential Duties & Responsibilities)
Precision Shaping & Finishing: Operate belt sanders to shape custom knife handles. You will also operate buffing machines and bead blasting machines to achieve our signature premium finishes.
Order Processing: Efficiently and accurately process manufacturing orders within designated timeframes, following detailed step-by-step instructions.
Material Flow: Route raw materials and work-in-process inventory, along with their detailed order documentation, to the next staging and production areas.
Consistent Quality: Maintain a steady, productive work pace on your machines while ensuring every piece meets our uncompromising luxury quality standards.
Shop Stewardship: Keep your personal work area organized, safe, and immaculately clean through regular basic housekeeping and material management.
Team Collaboration: Assist with the annual physical inventory count. Work respectfully and cooperatively with other team members across departments.
Safety First: Strictly adhere to all safety and machinery guidelines in the daily performance of your duties.
Who You Are (Qualifications & Skills)
Experience: You have a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of six months of job experience or related training in a production environment. Prior experience in a machine shop or metal fabrication environment is highly desirable.
A Keen Eye for Detail: You possess strong depth perception and close vision, essential for identifying tiny imperfections and finishing handles flawlessly.
Willingness to Learn: You are highly positive, eager to grow, and open to learning new specialized skill sets both inside and outside the shop.
Strong Communicator: You can consistently read, comprehend, and follow written technical procedures. You are able to communicate clearly, respectfully, and concisely with managers and teammates.
Core Math Skills: You are comfortable performing basic math calculations (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing using whole numbers, decimals, and common fractions).
Self-Driven Mindset: You are self-motivated, able to work independently to meet tight deadlines, and welcome constructive feedback as a tool for growth.
Schedule Flexibility: You are driven to hit production goals and are willing to work overtime when required to keep up with launch demands.
Tech-Friendly (Bonus): Any experience navigating basic work order or inventory tracking software is a definite plus.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Active Days: You must be physically comfortable standing and walking on the shop floor for 8 to 10 hours a day (and occasionally up to 12 hours during peak production windows).
Physical Capability: You will regularly reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and must be able to occasionally lift and move boxes or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
The Shop Environment: You will work in a dynamic production environment around moving mechanical parts and machinery vibrations. The noise level is typically moderate but can be loud at times.
Ready to Shape a Legacy?
If you are a positive, hardworking individual with a passion for high-end craftsmanship, we want to hear from you.
To Apply: Please submit your resume along with a brief description of your hands-on experience or metal/woodworking background.
