What are the responsibilities and job description for the 0.4 FTE Occupational Therapist position at William E. Norris School?
The certified Occupational Therapist provides quality school-based occupational therapy services, which includes, but is not limited to, assessment/evaluation, intervention/treatment, IEP planning and implementation, discharge planning, related documentation, and communication between teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families. The Occupational Therapist works under the supervision of the Principal. The Principal, based on results of an annual performance evaluation, determines consideration for continued employment.
Primary Responsibilities:
-Develop treatment plans (IEPs/504 plans) that are strength-based, as well as child and family centered for overall educational improvement.
-Conduct assessments, analyze results, and write reports to determine strengths and concerns for students’ skills.
-Complete thorough evaluations, including muscle tone, range of motion/mobility, orthopedic needs, movement.
-Participate in necessary meetings as part of IEP process.
-Ensure evaluations, treatment plans, and service delivery are aligned with school, state, and federal guidelines.
-Prepare and maintain accurate records and progress notes.
-Manage a detailed log of services provided and services missed due to student or therapist absences.
-Educate and demonstrate (verbally or written) therapy techniques to parents/families that can be incorporated into the home.
-Consults and coordinates with parents, teachers and other professional workers.
-Uses instructional practices that reflect high expectations regarding content and quality of effort and work; engage all students; and are personalized to accommodate diverse learning styles, needs, interests, and levels of readiness.
-Plans and implements lessons that set clear and high expectations and also make knowledge accessible for all students.
-Welcomes and encourages every family to become active participants in the classroom and school community.
-Demonstrates the capacity to reflect on and improve the educator’s own practice, using informal means as well as meetings with teams and work groups to gather information, analyze data, examine issues, set meaningful goals, and develop new approaches in order to improve teaching and learning.
