Job Summary
The Student Support Specialist for the School of Business, under the supervision of the Dean, provides guidance and support to students in academic planning, career development, and overall success. This role also serves as a resource to faculty, staff, and the public, ensuring effective communication and the smooth delivery of School of Business programs and services.

- Assist the university in implementing the Statement of Purpose.
- Assist the university in implementing the long-range institutional and financial plans.
- Provide feedback to faculty and administrators regarding curriculum, processes, and academic practices based on student advising experiences
- Provide academic advising to students regarding course selection, degree requirements, and career pathways.
- Monitor student progress toward graduation and intervene with appropriate support resources when academic challenges arise.
- Maintain accurate advising records and ensure compliance with university policies and accreditation standards.
- Support student retention and success initiatives through proactive outreach and mentoring.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to align advising with curriculum updates and program goals.
- Participate and assist with recruiting efforts for undergraduate and graduate programs in the School of Business.
- Assist with orientation and registration activities for new and continuing students.
- Promote relationships between WCU and School of Business alumni.
- Promote the university through participation in religious, civic, cultural, educational, and/or business activities.
- Participate in the annual evaluation of the effectiveness of the business programs at WCU.
- Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a closely related field.
- Proficiency with common office productivity software, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to learn and use university advising platforms and student information systems to support academic planning and record-keeping.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Willingness to adhere to the confidentiality requirements of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Commitment to supporting student success and contributing to the mission of the School of Business.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in academic advising, student services, or higher education.
- Familiarity with business curricula and degree requirements.
- Knowledge of student retention strategies and academic support resources.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to perform core duties in an on-campus setting
- Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting.
- Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
- Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Must have ability to lift and carry 25 pounds to handle recruiting setup
