Job Summary

Under the leadership of the Dean of the Winters School of Music, while collaborating with departmental leadership, the Coordinator of Music Therapy is a faculty position responsible for managing and directing all areas of the music therapy program. This role oversees the education, clinical training, and internship placement of all music therapy undergraduate and equivalency students. The Coordinator ensures the program’s compliance with American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) standards, teaches academic and clinical coursework, supervises clinical practica, and leads the recruitment strategy for the department.

  • Program Leadership & Administration:
    • Coordinate all areas of the music therapy program, ensuring that all AMTA requirements for education curriculum and clinical training are met and maintained.
    • Oversee the internship placement process for all students, assisting them with successful job attainment and board certification (MT-BC) preparation prior to or immediately following graduation.
    • Serve as the primary liaison between the university and the AMTA, maintaining good standing and advocating for the field of music therapy.
    • Seek and secure additional community placements for clinical practica and maintain relationships with existing clinical partners.
    • Assist the university in implementing the Statement of Purpose and long-range institutional plans.
  • Academic & Clinical Supervision:
    • Teach music therapy courses and behavior management techniques specific to the populations served.
    • Supervise clinical training for practica, providing feedback on current practices and techniques.
    • Assist students with the development of clinical musicianship, including guitar skills, vocal skills, and overall musicality.
    • Advise and guide students regarding degree plans and preferred clinical populations.
  • Recruitment & Service:
    • Develop and implement an active recruitment strategy targeting high schools and community colleges in the local area and region to expand the music therapy program.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the Winters School of Music.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Music Therapy from a regionally accredited institution.
  • At least 3 years of full-time clinical experience in music therapy (or equivalent in part-time work).
  • Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC).
  • Written testimony to a personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to a biblical worldview and code of conduct that exemplifies the mission of William Carey University.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Music, Music Therapy, or a related field.
  • Collegiate teaching experience.
  • Active membership in the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA).

Physical Demands

  • Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must have the mobility to move around rehearsal spaces and music facilities.
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry 25 pounds.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel to clinical sites to observe and supervise students.
  • Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
  • Must be able to maintain office hours and perform duties in an on-campus setting
