Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform residential and commercial inspections across assigned disciplines (building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy, accessibility, etc.).
- Review permits and approved plans; verify field conditions match submitted documents.
- Document inspection results, issue correction notices, and schedule re-inspections as needed.
- Record outcomes in municipal permitting platforms (e.g., BS&A).
- Communicate inspection requirements and results clearly to contractors, property owners, and municipal staff.
- Provide responsive customer service and contribute to overall code compliance efforts.
Job Requirements / Qualifications
- At least one current State of Michigan inspector registration (Building, Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical) required.
- Candidates with an active ICC certification who are eligible for Michigan registration are also encouraged to apply.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Working knowledge of the Michigan Building, Residential, Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical Codes, plus Energy Code and local ordinances required.
- Multiple registrations/certifications across inspection disciplines preferred.
- 3-5 years of municipal inspection or plan review experience preferred.
- Experience with BS&A or similar permitting/inspection systems preferred.
- Strong plan-reading, documentation, and customer service skills preferred.
Schedule / Compensation
- Part-time / as-needed, primarily daytime hours with flexibility based on inspection demand.
- $35-$45/hour depending on certifications and experience.
- Mileage reimbursement available; billing is tied to permit-based inspections.
