Underwriter
Willamette Valley Bank is looking for an Underwriter to review and analyze mortgage loan applications to ensure borrowers meet investor, regulatory, and company guidelines. This role is key to making sound credit decisions and supporting a smooth loan process.
Some of the Key Responsibilities Include
- Review Loan Applications: Examine credit reports, income, assets, and property appraisals for accuracy and completeness
- Assess Eligibility: Calculate debt-to-income ratios and determine borrower qualification
- Ensure Compliance: Confirm loans meet federal, state, investor, and company policies, including Ability to Repay and Qualified Mortgage rules
- Identify and Manage Risk: Spot potential risks and apply appropriate conditions or mitigations
- Make Loan Decisions: Approve, suspend, or deny loans based on thorough analysis
- Communicate Effectively: Work closely with loan officers, processors, and other team members to resolve issues and request documentation
- Maintain Records: Keep detailed records of underwriting decisions and rationale
- Stay Current: Keep up with industry regulations, underwriting standards, and product guidelines
- Analyze Financials: Review paystubs, W2s, tax returns, and other financial documents to verify income and stability
- Support Team Collaboration: Engage proactively with colleagues to ensure smooth loan processing and compliance

Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of mortgage underwriting experience with strong agency guideline knowledge
- Must possess strong integrity and outstanding work ethic
- Proficiency in FHA, VA, USDA, Fannie Mae (FNMA), Freddie Mac (FHLMC) and various other non-QM investor requirements
- Strong knowledge of mortgage regulations and compliance requirements
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage multiple files and prioritize effectively
- Strong knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA loan programs
- Proficiency in loan origination systems and automated underwriting tools (e.g., DU, LP)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
