Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role based in Joliet, IL for a Planning Specialist. Manages and performs a variety of agency administrative and operational activities; assists in creating, updating, and administering emergency plans and procedures; and provides support for training, exercises, response, and recovery tasks. The Planning Specialist also manages the County’s public alert and warning systems, Tactical Interoperable Communications Plan (TICP), and crisis communications planning, ensuring effective communications and coordination across public safety and partner agencies. The Planning Specialist is expected to function effectively as part of an agency with a critical mission for ensuring public safety and maintaining public order. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Preparedness Manager. Assignments are typically received in the form of policies, procedures, general instructions and are expected to organize the details and carry them through to completion. Work is periodically reviewed through conferences, inspections, and reports for results obtained.
Qualifications
- Strong Analytical Skills and Planning experience
- Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Environmental Science, Public Safety, or a related field.
- Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- At least 3 years of experience in emergency management, environmental safety, hazardous materials, or a related field with a focus on technological hazards.
- ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, ICS-400, and HSEEP.
- IPEM and PDS emergency management certifications are preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and minimal liability insurance required by law.
