With locations in Pocatello and Chubbuck, Wilks Funeral Homes is the preferred funeral and cremation provider in our area. This per diem, on-call role is well suited for first responders, healthcare workers, or individuals with flexible schedules who are looking for a meaningful way to serve their community while earning supplemental income.
About the Role
As an On-Call Care Team Specialist, you will play an important role in the respectful and compassionate transfer of those entrusted to our care. This position involves transporting deceased individuals from care facilities, medical centers, private residences, and occasional on-scene locations to the funeral home.
This is a flexible, on-call position, typically covering evening, overnight, and weekend hours. You are not required to remain on-site during your on-call shift, but you must be available to answer your phone and respond promptly while remaining within a 30-minute radius.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate transportation and carry out safe, respectful transfers
- Interact with families in a compassionate, calm, and supportive manner
- Follow established procedures and complete required documentation thoroughly and accurately
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while representing the funeral home
- Handle deceased individuals with the utmost care, reverence, and respect
- Uphold strict standards of confidentiality and privacy
- Safely lift and carry up to 80 pounds and pull up to 135 pounds
Compensation and On-Call Structure
We value your time and your willingness to be available when families need us. Our compensation structure includes nightly standby pay, plus additional compensation for each transfer completed.
- Primary On-Call Standby: $40 per night
- Paid for being available, whether or not a call comes in
- Secondary On-Call Standby: $25 per night. Paid for serving as backup or as the second team member, whether or not a call comes in
- Transfer Pay: $75 per completed transfer paid in addition to the nightly standby amount
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
- Ability to remain within a 30-minute response radius of the funeral home while on call
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Emotional maturity and the ability to work in a sensitive environment with compassion and professionalism
- Previous experience in EMS, fire service, law enforcement, nursing, healthcare, or other service-oriented roles is preferred, but not required
- No previous funeral experience is required; we provide comprehensive on-the-job training
