Job Description
Wilkes Community College is seeking a professional, customer-focused Bartender to support events held at the John A. Walker Community Center.
The Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages during events held at the John A. Walker Community Center. The individual in this role must provide excellent customer service, maintain compliance with all applicable alcohol service laws and college policies, and contribute to a positive guest experience.

Work schedules will vary based on event needs and will primarily include evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.

Essential Duties Summary
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in accordance with approved recipes, policies, and North Carolina ABC regulations.
- Provide courteous, respectful, and professional service to all guests.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of bar areas before, during, and after events.
- Set up and stock bar supplies, mixers, garnishes, glassware, and inventory for events.
- Work collaboratively with Walker Center staff, event coordinators, caterers, and other event personnel.
- Follow all college safety, sanitation, and customer service standards.
- Assist with event breakdown and cleanup activities as needed.
- Represent Wilkes Community College in a positive and professional manner at all times
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in dining room service or food preparation is preferred, but not required.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to provide exceptional guest experiences reflective of the Walker Center’s hospitality standards.
- Ability to work a flexible, event-driven schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Must successfully complete the North Carolina ABC Commission online training course and provide proof of completion.

Work is primarily performed under general supervision in an indoor setting with appropriate climate controls. Travel, early morning, evening, and weekend work may be required.

Essential functions: Positions require lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate, ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods, ability to move between classrooms, buildings, and campuses, ability to express or exchange ideas, and good eye/hand dexterity.
Light Work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force, frequently lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires walking, standing, sitting, with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.
Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details and content of the discipline, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills are important.
