Job Title
Adjunct Instructor - EMS for Workforce Development

Job Description
The Adjunct EMS Instructor delivers face-to-face and/or hybrid instruction for EMS certification and continuing education courses, ensuring compliance with state and credentialing requirements while fostering a supportive, hands-on learning environment. Courses may include, but are not limited to, EMT, continuing education, refresher courses, and specialized EMS training.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Provide engaging, high-quality instruction aligned with North Carolina OEMS, credentialing standards, and workforce education best practices.
  • Prepare and deliver course lectures, skills instruction, labs, and assessments.
  • Maintain accurate student records, attendance, and required documentation.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback.
  • Ensure a safe learning environment and adherence to classroom, lab, and clinical protocols.
  • Collaborate with WDCE staff on course scheduling, curriculum updates, and program needs.
  • Model professionalism and ethical standards appropriate for the EMS profession.
  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position.
  • Provide accessibility to students and colleagues as expected in a learning-centered college.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
  • Current North Carolina EMS credential at the EMT Paramedic level
  • North Carolina EMS Instructor credential
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent, relevant EMS field experience
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to student success


Preferred Qualifications
  • An associate degree or higher
  • Instructor Certifications for ACLS, PALS, PEPP, and ITLS or PHTLS.
  • Previous teaching or instructional experience in EMS, healthcare, or adult education
  • Experience teaching workforce training, continuing education, or certification-based courses.
  • Familiarity with NC OEMS regulations and continuing education requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, computer applications proficiency, and the ability to work effectively with others.

Physical Demands
Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed under general supervision in an office or classroom setting with appropriate climate controls. Travel, early morning, evening, and weekend work may be required.

Essential functions of this position require lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate.

Medium work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally; involves sitting only occasionally, walking and standing are required regularly, incumbents may be required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, or handle.

Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills are important.

Associates's Degree: $28.27 p/hr Bachelor's Degree: $28.49 p/hr
