PRIMARY PURPOSE

Collaborate and assist the campus principal in all aspects of planning, curriculum development, program evaluation, personnel management, financial management, emergency procedures, resource scheduling, and facilities operations. Direct and manage assigned areas of instructional program and campus operations. Oversee assigned student activities and services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • Master’s degree
  • Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate

  • A strong understanding of curriculum development and management
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

  • The ability to successfully:
    • Evaluate instructional programs
    • Hire life-changers, manage personnel, and evaluate teaching effectiveness
    • Coordinate campus functions and support operations
    • Manage a budget
    • Interpret policy, procedures, and data

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Instructional Management

  1. Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs.
  2. Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping staff pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  3. Promote the use of technology in the teaching and learning process.
  4. Regularly consult the principal, campus leadership team, and campus advisory committees regarding planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of campus educational programs.

 

Organizational Climate

  1. Promote a positive and caring climate for learning.
  2. Foster collegiality and a sense of teamwork among staff members and encourage involvement in decision-making.
  3. Communicate expectations of high performance to staff and students and recognize excellence and achievement.
  4. Communicate effectively with students and staff.
  5. Deal sensitively and fairly with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  6. Ensure effective and timely resolution of conflicts.
  7. Maintain effective two-way communication with district administrators, staff, students, parents, and the community.
  8. Serve as a bridge between the district and campus to support the district strategic plan and ensure “one vision, one voice, one plan.”

 

Organizational Improvement

  1. Assist the principal in building a shared vision for school improvement.
  2. Identify, analyze, and apply research findings to promote school improvement.
  3. Participate in the development of the campus improvement plan including input from staff, parents, and community members.

 

Personnel Management

  1. Assist in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new campus staff.
  2. Assist in defining expectations for staff performance.
  3. Evaluate employee performance and conduct evaluation conferences.
  4. Support staff professional growth and development.
  5. Document employee performance and provide recommendations to the principal regarding employment decisions.
  6. Work with campus leadership teams to plan professional development activities.
  7. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.

 

Management of Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Functions

  1. Supervise operations in the principal’s absence.
  2. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and board policy.
  3. Assist with campus budget development and fiscal management.
  4. Help plan daily school activities including schedules and assignments.
  5. Assist in monitoring student attendance and follow-up investigations.
  6. Manage supplies, textbooks, and equipment inventory.
  7. Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
  8. Maintain required reports, records, and documents.
  9. Manage use and maintenance of school facilities.
  10. Direct and monitor co-curricular and extracurricular programs.
  11. Assist with emergency management planning and safety drills.

 

Student Management

  1. Ensure students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
  2. Support a student discipline management system that promotes positive behavior.
  3. Ensure school rules are uniformly observed and discipline is equitable.
  4. Conduct conferences regarding student concerns with parents, students, and staff.

 

Professional Growth

  1. Participate in professional development opportunities.
  2. Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to action.
  3. Seek input from the principal as appropriate.

 

School and Community Relations

  1. Articulate the district mission to the community.
  2. Demonstrate awareness of community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  3. Encourage community and parent involvement.
  4. Promote a professional image in the community.

 

Other

  1. Maintain confidentiality regarding student and coworker information in accordance with FERPA.
  2. Model integrity and ethics consistent with the Educator Code of Ethics.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with the principal. Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel, and others as assigned.

Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals.
Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Frequent walking.
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
Environment: Work inside; may work outside.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Occasional districtwide or statewide travel and frequent prolonged or irregular hours may be required.
