Athletic Director
Reports To: Superintendent / Campus Principal
Contract: 12-Month
Position Summary
Wildorado ISD is seeking a dedicated and visionary Athletic Director to lead and manage the district’s interscholastic athletic programs. The Athletic Director will oversee all aspects of the district’s athletic department while promoting excellence in athletics, academics, character development, and sportsmanship.
This position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to developing student-athletes at all levels while maintaining strict compliance with UIL regulations, district policies, and state guidelines.
Primary Responsibilities
Athletic Program Leadership
•Provide leadership, organization, and supervision for all district athletic programs including cross country, volleyball, football, basketball, track, and golf, while supporting cheerleading and other student spirit programs.
•Coordinate and supervise coaching staff, including hiring recommendations, mentoring, and performance evaluation.
•Develop and implement a comprehensive athletic program that promotes student participation, competitive excellence, and character development.
•Establish expectations for sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and academic success among student-athletes and coaches.
UIL Compliance & Governance
•Ensure full compliance with all University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules and regulations.
•Maintain accurate eligibility documentation and oversight of athletic participation requirements.
•Serve as the district liaison with UIL and other governing bodies.
Academic & Character Development
•Promote the importance of academic achievement among student-athletes.
•Collaborate with teachers and administrators to ensure athletes maintain eligibility and academic success.
•Foster programs that build leadership, responsibility, respect, and integrity among student-athletes.
•Encourage campus-wide engagement that develops younger students’ interest in athletics, health, and leadership.
Program Coordination & Operations
•Develop and oversee athletic schedules, transportation, and equipment inventory.
•Coordinate athletic facilities usage, maintenance, and safety procedures.
•Ensure proper supervision and safety at all athletic practices, games, and events.
Staff Development
•Provide mentorship, professional development, and support for coaches.
•Promote consistent coaching philosophy aligned with district expectations and student development.
•Ensure coaches complete required certifications (CPR, safety training, UIL rules clinics, etc.).
District Leadership & Collaboration
•Work collaboratively with district administrators to support and align athletic programs with the district’s goals, vision, and expectations.
•Communicate effectively with parents, community members, and booster organizations.
•Promote a positive culture of athletics that reflects the values of the district and community.
Qualifications
Required
•Valid Texas Teacher Certification
•Knowledge of UIL rules and compliance requirements
Preferred
•Experience as Head Coach or Athletic Coordinator
•Experience in small school or rural athletic programs
•Experience supervising multiple sports programs and coaching staff
