History: Established in 1977, Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation (WRR) receives over 10,000 wild animals per year for rehabilitation and release as well as providing permanent sanctuary for more than 600 resident non-releasable indigenous wildlife, non-native wildlife (large mammals, primates, reptiles, and birds) and farmed animals. Wildlife Rescue is on 212 acres in the Texas Hill Country near Austin and San Antonio.
Description: The Facilities Technician’s role is to perform various duties that include installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining facility equipment and vehicles along with the overall upkeep of the Wildlife Sanctuary. The Facilities Technician will report to the Facilities Director. The work schedule will be for an 8-hour workday, Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, generally between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm.
Primary Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary areas of responsibility are maintaining the facilities and equipment used in Kendalia to safely and efficiently operate the Sanctuary.
- Assist in the construction of new or expanded enclosures, buildings, and structures
- Perform necessary maintenance and repairs to all WRR enclosures, buildings, and structures on WRR Properties (Kendalia and infrequently San Antonio, Texas)
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on WRR machinery, vehicles, and equipment on-site
- Complete assigned work projects with Animal Care Staff to ensure the safety of all employees and animals
- Perform routine landscape work: mowing, edging, trimming shrubs and/or trees as necessary
- Ensure that the facility grounds and building are kept in an attractive and safe condition and take the necessary and prompt initiative in responding to all repair needs
- Assist in the inspection of all animal enclosures to identify and repair any existing or potential issues with fence integrity, hotwires, or other materials
- Perform a variety of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry maintenance functions
- Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties
- Communicate and assist vendors on ongoing construction projects
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Education: High School Diploma/GED, Trade School, or comparable skill set obtained through experience
- Experience: 2-3 years of facilities, general maintenance, or construction experience
- Skills: Basic welding and carpentry skills preferred, any electrical experience a plus, able to operate heavy-duty machinery, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, work efficiently as a team and independently
- Attendance: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance
- Must be able to lift and/or move items over 50lbs frequently
- Must be able to work in diverse weather conditions
Compensation:
$17.00 per hour, depending on experience, plus benefits. Position open until filled.
