Position Summary:
The Senior Buyer is a fundamental member of the Purchasing team at WCS, providing critical oversight of procurement activities to ensure the efficient and effective sourcing of goods and services necessary for our conservation projects worldwide. This position reports to the Director of Procurement. The position is part of a collaborative team that provides strategic purchasing support and tactical decision making to bring process efficiencies and responsibly sourced goods and services to WCS. Excellent attention to detail, being proactive, having a mind for process, possessing strong writing and communication skills are all important elements contributing to success in the role.
Principal Responsibilities: (the WCS Global Departments by executing the processes that ensure proper sourcing and procurement of goods and services as well as supporting the shipment of goods)
The physical demands include but are not limited to the use of a Keyboard, 10-key, Mouse, and Telephone Use, Handwriting, Sitting, Standing, Crouching, Kneeling, Bending, Walking, Stair Climbing, minimal Driving, and Lifting up to 50lbs.
Workplace Conditions and Environment:
The workplace conditions and environment of the role include working indoors, closely with others, and/or alone, exposure to excess noise, and travel to other WCS sites, conferences and global sites.

Principal Responsibilities: (the WCS Global Departments by executing the processes that ensure proper sourcing and procurement of goods and services as well as supporting the shipment of goods)
- Manage and maintain relationships with internal business partner groups to ensure open and consistent communication.
- Receive, review and process incoming requisitions from stakeholders according to documented SOPs.
- Interface with accounts payable to resolve invoice discrepancies and maintain good account standings with key vendors.
- Draft and administer approved solicitations including ITB, RFP, RFQ (request for qualifications), and present results for procurement action.
- Actively manage vendor relationships to be proficient in industry trends, supply chain constraints, logistical changes, and potential business opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with the Manager of Global Purchasing and the Manager of Procurement.
- Operations to support day-to-day procurement activities, contribute to process improvement initiatives, and assist with the implementation of strategic purchasing initiatives.
- Prepare and review all required customs documentation for international shipments, including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and export declarations.
- Verify product classifications, tariff codes, ECCN and other customs-related information to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and minimize risks of customs delays or penalties.
- Bachelors degree required or equivalent experience and certification in procurement or logistics functions
- 3-5 years experience in procurement, logistics or finance related roles preferred
- Working knowledge of procure to pay processes and fundamental business operations
- Experience in international shipping, logistics, or customs compliance, with a focus on preparing customs documentation preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suites and other communication software required
- Experience with an ERP platform and procure to pay software are preferred
