Medical Assistant with Phlebotomy Skills
Wild Iris is a small, family-focused clinic in Wasilla, AK, seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Medical Assistant (MA) with proven Phlebotomy skills. This role is essential for maintaining smooth clinical and administrative operations, ensuring excellent patient care, and providing reliable support to our provider. We prefer a candidate with prior experience who is eager to learn, takes direction well, and thrives in a close-knit, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Perform competent and efficient venipuncture/phlebotomy and capillary sticks for laboratory testing.
- Process, label, and prepare blood and other specimens (e.g., urine, swabs) correctly for transport, maintaining strict chain of custody and infection control protocols.
- Room patients, accurately record vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, weight, etc.), and document patient history and chief complaints in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Assist the provider during examinations, minor procedures, and point-of-care testing.
- Administer injections (IM/SQ) and medications as directed by the provider and within the scope of practice.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and efficient turnover of exam rooms and clinical areas.
- Manage medical supplies and inventory, ensuring stock levels are maintained.
- Answer phones, schedule appointments, and manage patient check-in/check-out processes.
- Handle communication, including responding to patient questions with a professional and compassionate demeanor.
- Update and organize patient medical records and assist with preparing charts.
- Perform administrative tasks as needed to support the clinic's operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma preferred.
- Demonstrated competency in venipuncture/phlebotomy techniques.
- Prior experience as a Medical Assistant is preferred.
- Proven ability to take direction, be a self-starter, and adapt to the needs of a small clinic environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail, especially regarding documentation, specimen labeling, and patient safety.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on patient empathy and customer service.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and standard infection control procedures.
Job Details:
- Hours: Must be able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week, with a preferred ability to work 32–36 hours per week starting in January.
- Compensation: From $26.00 per hour. Increase in pay every 6 months if performance is satisfactory.
