Job Summary
We are seeking the proper person who can both work in Optical sales as well as SHARE in coverage of front desk needs in a busy Optometric practice. Our practice has a FANTASTIC team of individuals, who work as a TEAM. We now have a vacancy because a TEAM member had family needs. We love her so much that she is invited to the December office Christmas party. WE need someone with OPTICAL sales experience and KNOWLEDGE in the arena of OPTICS. A loving and business-oriented salesperson is who we will select. Our busy practice requires cross training. We will make a front desk person better as well as making an optical salesperson better. WE will PAY IN FULL for additional training and degrees. Please do NOT apply if you have no Optometric experience.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly, assist with their check-in process, and gather relevant medical history to support accurate assessments.
- Prepare patients for eye examinations by measuring vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse, and explaining procedures clearly.
- Assist ophthalmologists and optometrists during eye exams, including setting up equipment and ensuring proper hygiene using aseptic techniques.
- Manage patient records efficiently within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems like Epic, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Conduct basic laboratory tasks such as lens measurements, frame adjustments, and quality checks to support optical services.
- Educate patients on eyewear options, lens types, and proper eye care practices, leveraging retail sales skills to recommend suitable products.
- Support inventory management by tracking optical supplies, ordering new stock as needed, and maintaining organized storage areas.
- Assist with medical billing and coding processes related to ophthalmology services to ensure accurate reimbursement.
- Collaborate with senior care providers when working with elderly or pediatric patients, demonstrating sensitivity to their unique needs.
- Uphold safety standards by practicing proper aseptic techniques during procedures and maintaining a clean clinical environment.
- Promote retail sales of eyewear products by understanding customer preferences and providing excellent service that encourages repeat business.
Experience
Candidates should bring a proactive attitude combined with relevant experience in healthcare or retail environments. Prior laboratory experience or clinic experience in ophthalmology or pediatrics is highly valued. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms is preferred. A solid foundation in medical terminology, anatomy knowledge related to the eye, physiology principles, medical coding, and medical billing will enhance your effectiveness in this role. Experience working with senior care populations or in retail management—especially retail math—is a plus. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills for explaining complex information clearly while maintaining professionalism at all times.
