We specialize in maintining a diverse collection of plants while implementing beautiful landscapes. To achieve our mission, we are hiring an Educator/Special Event Coordinator. This position is essential in our educational mission which is to provide interpretive and environmental programs to all visitors, including the public and students of the Washoe County. \*Job Brief: \*The mission of the Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Garden is education, conservation, research and to provide an impactful experience to the people of Washoe County. To achieve our mission, we are hiring an Educator/Special Event Coordinator. This position is essential in our educational mission which is to provide interpretive and environmental programs to all visitors, including the public and students of the Washoe County. \*Responsibilities: \*The Educator is responsible for coordinating and implementing the Wilbur D. May Arboretum environmental educational programs. \* Maintain & improve current educational programs \* Implement new programs where needed \* Work closely with the Arboretum Horticulturist to assist in teaching/lead public programs and tours \* Facilitate and lead formal seminars \* Develop brochures, flyers, and environmental tour guides for the Arboretum \* Coordinate with Washoe County volunteer coordinator \* Possess strong social media skills to advertise and promote the arboretum \* Educational program record keeping \* Foster relationships with representatives of the Washoe County School District, chapter schools and homeschools \*Requirements: \* \* Ability to work independently and within a team \* Create and prepare educational and interpretive programs in a timely manner \* Develop and maintain working relationships with community partners and volunteers \* Work productively and efficiently with minimal supervision \* Ability to work with the general public \* Computer skills with programs such as Word, Excel, Social Media, etc. \* Ability to work weekends \* Work indoors and outdoors \* Under the direction of the Horticulturalist performs/completes other additional project/duties as assigned. \*Skills and abilities\* \* Writing skills \* Communications skills \* Computer \* Organized \* Adaptable \*Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills\* \* High school diploma \* Education certification, experience in teaching/education, childhood development, outdoor education, biology, ecology or a related field \*Desired qualifications and attributes: \* \* Creates appropriate learning opportunities \* Answers phone inquiries as required \* Flexible work schedule \* Utilize social media \* Creative, knowledgeable, dedicated to education and the environment \* Outdoor education experience highly recommended and is preferred or classroom experience. \* Experience with volunteers and early childhood education preferred \*Schedule: \* Monday - Friday, some weekends and evenings for special programs and events. 8hr shift \*\*We recognize that no one candidate can possess 100% of the skills or experience we seek in this job description.
