That is our slogan, and it is also the whole business plan. Much of the legal industry has drifted toward volume: call centers answer the phones, files move through systems, and clients rarely speak with the same person twice. Wiggs Law Firm was built as the alternative. Clients work directly with their attorney, calls are returned by people who know the file, and the family name is on the door for a reason. Braxton grew up in Lakeland, and his father, Howard Wiggs, spent twenty-five years serving this city at City Hall, the last of them as mayor. That idea of a connected community did not retire when he did.

We are a commercial litigation practice in South Lakeland representing Florida businesses and the people who run them in real estate, construction, contract, and employment disputes across Polk County, the Tenth Judicial Circuit, Hillsborough County, and the surrounding area.

And we are a team of three. Braxton is the attorney. Vanessa is our paralegal, and Hannah is our legal assistant. We are hiring a second litigation paralegal, and we are taking our time to find the right person, because whoever joins us will be a quarter of this firm. That is not a figure of speech. Your work will show up in real cases for real clients, and everyone here will know your name by lunch on day one.

Why this job is different

The way we treat clients is the way we treat each other. At most firms, a paralegal with your experience gets handed a stack of documents and a deadline. Here you get a caseload. You will manage your own active commercial litigation matters in Florida state court, work directly with Braxton on strategy, and see cases through from the first demand letter to trial. Case ownership is real. So is the support: workloads ebb and flow, and when a matter heats up, we jump in for each other.

What you will do

• Draft and manage discovery: requests for production, interrogatories, requests for admission, responses, deficiency letters, and meet-and-confer correspondence
• Prepare for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials, including exhibit organization, witness preparation materials, and demonstratives
• Manage case calendars, deadlines, and procedural compliance under the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure
• Draft routine motions, notices, subpoenas, and procedural correspondence for attorney review
• Coordinate with opposing counsel, court personnel, court reporters, and process servers
• Maintain case files in MyCase and support document production and e-discovery
• Conduct fact investigation, public records research, and witness location work as needed

Who does well here

• 3 years of litigation paralegal experience (5 preferred), with Florida state court civil litigation experience
• You can run a litigation docket without someone looking over your shoulder
• Strong working knowledge of the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure and the Florida e-filing portal
• You write well, catch the details others miss, and are comfortable with technology
• Professional discretion and good judgment with sensitive client matters
• You care about the work and the people it affects. Our clients are usually going through one of the worst stretches of their business lives, and they can tell who is going through the motions and who is not.

Pay and benefits

• $58,000 to $65,000 per year, depending on experience
