About the role
The Commissioning Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing field commissioning activities to ensure equipment and systems are commissioned, tested, and turned over in accordance with project specifications, schedules, and budgets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews project specifications to fully understand commissioning requirements and field execution scope.
- Helps to develop and manage commissioning plans, schedules, and execution strategies.
- Creates and oversees performance testing, functional testing, and validation plans and schedules.
- Helps to develop and coordinate customer training plans and schedules.
- Manages and maintains the commissioning budget and schedule established during the equipment sales process.
- Oversees all commissioning documentation, including test results, reports, punch lists, and final turnover packages.
- Serves as the primary liaison between the owner, design team, contractors, and internal teams, as applicable.
- Manages all on-site commissioning activities, including testing, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance.
- Helps to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and determine effective corrective actions.
- Collaborates closely with the Engineering team to resolve technical issues during commissioning and startup.
- Ensures equipment performance meets contractual and operational requirements.
- Provides professional, courteous, and responsive customer service throughout the commissioning process.
- Understands customer requirements and proactively recommend solutions or improvements.
- Maintains positive working relationships with customers, contractors, engineers, operators, and internal teams.
- Ensures end users are knowledgeable in system operation, reference materials, and maintenance expectations.
- Maintains confidentiality of operational and system information.
- Stays current on technical and industry knowledge through training, workshops, and professional publications.
- Shares technical knowledge and lessons learned with service and engineering teams.
- Identifies opportunities to improve equipment performance, commissioning processes, and departmental effectiveness.
- Collaborates with Project Managers to ensure a smooth transition through the end of the project cycle.
- Coordinates with Project Managers/Accounting on project billing.
- Schedules and leads commissioning meetings
- When Service Manager is not available, attendance in pre-submittal and project kick-off meetings is required.
- Conducts fabrication and mechanical inspections during production to identify and resolve potential serviceability, accessibility, and startup concerns prior to shipment.
- Negotiates change orders when necessary.
- Ensures ISO compliance from all project team members by managing forms, certifications, and completed documentation.
- Willingness and availability to travel on short notice, up to 25%, as required by project needs.
- Participates in progress updates and mechanical inspections.
- Responsible for project management after post-production turnover through the end of warranty.
- Collaborates with Project Managers on final project close out.
- Be a back up Field Service Technician if needed due to scheduling difficulties.
Miscellaneous Duties and Responsibilities

Qualifications
- Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of water treatment technologies is required.
- Efficiently able to diagnose and troubleshoot water treatment issues in the field.
- Knowledge of plumbing valves, pumps and instruments (pressure, flow, pH, conductivity, ORP, temperature, silica, turbidity, chlorine, etc.) is required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, PFD’s, P&ID’s, general arrangements and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Well organized with strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- RS Linx, RS Logix 500, RS Logix 5000, FactoryTalk View, etc., is preferred but not required.

- Frequently required to stand; walk; sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally required to climb or balance.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
