What are the responsibilities and job description for the Founding Embedded Engineer, Consumer Hardware position at Widger Talent?
Ester Health · Los Angeles (west side) · Hybrid, 2 days/week onsite
About the role
Ester is building an at-home skin-imaging mirror and companion app. We are hiring an embedded engineer to own the device layer: board bring-up, camera and lighting control, and the validation that makes every scan consistent. You will join a growing hardware team and work with our imaging, ML, and app engineers and our hardware vendors.
What you'll do
- Bring up and maintain the embedded Linux platform on our hardware.
- Integrate cameras, LEDs, and sensors; build RGB/UV capture sequences that repeat scan to scan.
- Build test and validation for capture consistency, with results that are measured, logged, and reproducible.
- Own diagnostics, logging, recovery, and calibration hooks.
- Build the device-to-app bridge: pairing, provisioning, and OTA updates.
- Take the device from prototype through alpha with our hardware and manufacturing partners.
What we're looking for
- You have shipped hardware products to customers. Consumer devices preferred.
- Embedded Linux and board bring-up on production hardware.
- Camera and sensor integration.
- Strong C/C and Python.
- Rigorous validation habits: you test, measure, and make decisions from data.
- A track record of reliable follow-through. You commit to dates and hit them.
Nice to have
- Took a consumer device through EVT/DVT/PVT.
- Worked with contract manufacturers and component vendors.
- Background in optics, color science, or camera calibration.
Logistics
- Hybrid in Los Angeles (west side), 2 days per week onsite.
- Founder-level equity, full benefits, base salary $175K–$215K.
- Interview process: 30-minute intro call, 1–2 hour engineering take-home, 60-minute product and technical deep dive with the team.
Salary : $175,000 - $215,000
