About Pacific Standard Environmental

Pacific Standard Environmental (PSE) designs, installs, and maintains Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) for industrial clients across Southern California and beyond. Our technicians work directly with complex monitoring instruments that measure and report regulated emissions. Accuracy, reliability, and technical judgment matter.

We are seeking a Field Technician with strong hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing instrumentation and electronic systems, not just installing them. While prior CEMS experience is a plus, it is not required for candidates who bring the right technical foundation and are eager to learn this specialized discipline.

Overview:

This is a highly hands-on, field-based role. After an initial training period, technicians are expected to work independently at client sites, diagnosing issues, repairing equipment, and ensuring monitoring systems are functioning accurately and reliably.

This role is best suited for someone who enjoys working directly with instruments, understands electronic principles, and takes pride in careful troubleshooting and repair.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair environmental monitoring instrumentation and related electronic systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance, calibrations, and functional checks on monitoring equipment
  • Identify root causes of instrument and system failures and implement corrective actions
  • Apply electronic principles to diagnose faults in sensors, analyzers, transmitters, and control components
  • Use multimeters and other diagnostic tools to test voltage, current, resistance, continuity, and related parameters
  • Perform hands-on mechanical adjustments, component replacements, fittings, and repairs
  • Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line drawings, and equipment manuals
  • Work independently at industrial client sites after the initial ramp-up period
  • Complete accurate service reports, calibration logs, and documentation
  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and site-specific requirements

Required Technical Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate real-world experience in the following areas:

Instrumentation Troubleshooting and Repair:

  • Hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing instruments or sensors
  • Experience going beyond installation into fault isolation, repair, and return-to-service

Electronics Principles:

  • Working knowledge of basic electronics
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and electronic issues methodically

Ohm’s Law:

  • Practical understanding of Ohm’s Law and how it applies to troubleshooting real systems

Multimeter Proficiency:

  • Comfortable using all core multimeter functions, including:
    • AC and DC voltage
    • Current
    • Resistance
    • Continuity
    • Diode or frequency modes, as applicable
  • Experience using multimeters on both energized and de-energized systems

Hand Tools and Mechanical Aptitude:

  • Strong proficiency with hand tools used in electrical and mechanical work
  • Comfortable performing mechanical adjustments, fittings, and component replacements

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience working independently in the field
  • Comfort traveling regularly and working at industrial sites
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Clear communication skills when interacting with clients and internal teams
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle

Preferred:

  • Prior CEMS experience
  • Instrumentation, electronics, electrical, automation, or calibration background
  • Experience in regulated or compliance-driven environments
  • Military technical training or industrial field service experience

Why Join PSE:

  • Highly technical, hands-on work with real responsibility
  • Field autonomy after ramp-up
  • Strong overtime and travel reimbursement
  • Long-term stability in a specialized, in-demand field
  • Opportunity to grow into CEMS expertise
