The Opportunity
This is a hands-on, field-based role for a highly skilled CEMS Technician who enjoys independence, problem-solving, and travel. You will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and calibrating emissions monitoring systems at client facilities throughout California and neighboring states.
You will often work autonomously in the field while collaborating closely with the broader service team to uphold PSE’s high standards of accuracy, safety, and client trust.
Although the position is based out of PSE’s Santa Ana, CA headquarters, technicians typically visit the office no more than twice a week. For qualified candidates, company-sponsored relocation to Southern California is available.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Service & Maintenance
- Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on CEMS and process analyzers.
- Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation, PLCs, controls, and electrical/electronic systems.
- Calibrate analytical equipment to meet regulatory and quality standards.
- Install and modify environmental monitoring systems at power generation facilities.
- Document all maintenance activities accurately and completely (electronic and paper-based).
Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate clearly with clients and internal teams regarding maintenance activities, scheduling, and findings.
- Participate in periodic meetings at the Santa Ana office for training, calibration audits, and team collaboration.
- Support peers with technical insight and best practices as needed.
Quality & Efficiency
- Manage and maintain assigned inventory, tools, and replacement parts.
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance performance.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of service processes and safety protocols.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 5 years of dedicated experience in CEMS instrumentation, calibration, and maintenance.
- Completion of an electronics certification (military, trade school, or associate degree).
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across PLCs, analyzers, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, P&IDs, and electrical diagrams.
- Working knowledge of EH&S standards and environmental compliance regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CMMS (computerized maintenance management systems).
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and clean driving record.
- Ability to pass routine drug and background checks.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Regular travel throughout California and neighboring states.
- Work performed in industrial settings and outdoor environments, sometimes at heights exceeding 100 ft.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in confined or elevated spaces.
- Must be available for rotating on-call emergency service coverage (24/7).
