Assistant Director, Counseling and Psychological Services, Outreach and Programming

Widener University is currently seeking an Assistant Director in the Office of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). The Assistant Director is a 10-month role that works alongside the Executive Director combining clinical care and administrative responsibilities. This role is responsible for providing access to psychotherapy, education, clinical assessment and referral to psychiatric services for the university’s diverse student population, along with administrative responsibilities to assist with the provision and implementation of programs and services in CAPS.

The position reports to the Executive Director of CAPS and subsequently to the Associate Vice President of Wellbeing and Belonging with the Division of Student Engagement & Transformation. CAPS applies a holistic approach to help students achieve greater self-awareness and self-regulation, improve relationships and attain independence as they progress towards successful degree completion. The Assistant director would also take on additional administrative and leadership roles both within CAPS, as well as across the University community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to) :

Essential Duties (60%): (in conjunction with the Executive Director)

• Provide individual therapy services to graduate and undergraduate students.
• Collaborate with the executive director in overseeing and providing case management for students receiving mental health services at CAPS, as well as students referred off site, on campus and in the community.
• Partner with center leadership in the absence of the Executive Director to maintain continuity of operations, support clinical decision-making, provide guidance to staff, and ensure effective coordination and delivery of services.
• Coordinate with licensed clinical staff to provide after-hours on-call coverage to the campus community.
• Ongoing consultation and collaboration are maintained with the Executive Director and CAPS team members.
• Facilitate communication with faculty, staff, parents and students around counseling issues where needed.
• Collaborate with the members of the CARE Team as needed for student crisis situations.
• Partner with departments across campus to deliver holistic services in a timely manner.
• Ensure compliance with all professional, state and federal laws, policies and ethics (FERPA, HIPAA, PA State Licensing Laws, APA Code of Ethics, Title IX).
• Maintain accurate and up to date notes, files and other documentation.
• Develop and strengthen client relationships.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed to support departmental needs and align with the mission, values and goals of the Counseling & Psychological Services and Widener University.
  
  

Secondary Responsibilities:

Supervision (10%):

• Participate in regular group and individual meetings with CAPS staff.
• Provide supervision to trainee(s).
• Participate in weekly case conference and didactic trainings for graduate interns.
  
  

Administrative (15%):

• Plan and implement CAPS programs, services, and policies.
• Support and contribute to risk management efforts.
• Coordinate with unit leadership to provide updated EHR processes.
• Track, document, and manage CAPS outreach activities and community interactions to support reporting, assessment, and strategic planning.
  
  

Campus Partnerships and Outreach (15%)

• Serve on interdepartmental committees and task forces as assigned or requested by the executive director that may include, yet are not limited to: CARE Team, Traumatic Brain Injury Support Committee, QPR Training, and other university committees.
• Plan, implement and develop targeted outreach programs including Freshman Seminars, Wellness Programming and Orientation Sessions for students, student organizations, athletics, among others.
• Develop and implement new and innovative methods of outreach to community to increase engagement and support wellbeing.
• Coordinate with the executive director to accommodate ongoing student, faculty and staff programming and training opportunities as requested.
  
  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required) :

Required:

• Master’s degree in a mental health profession.
• Licensure to practice in Pennsylvania.
• Three (3 ) years of post-doctoral experience in a clinical setting. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
• Ability to provide supervision of clinical trainees.
• Ability to build relationships throughout the University.
• Strong communication skills.
  
  

Preferred:

• Doctoral degree (PsyD, PhD, DSW).
• Five (5 ) years post -doctoral experience.
• Experience in a college or university counseling center.
• Ability to work across stakeholder groups for outreach and engagement.
  
  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS:

• Rotating after hours on call crisis intervention coverage, as well as structured evening programming.
