What are the responsibilities and job description for the Superintendent of Parks position at Wicomico County?
The Superintendent of Parks will lead and oversee the Parks Division staff, ensuring high standards in facility maintenance and the successful achievement of the Department’s mission.
Duties:
- Assist the Director of Recreation, Parks and Tourism with developing budgets, including capital, enterprise, operations and grants.
- Undertake development design, construction estimates, bid documents and specifications.
- Supervise and coordinate subcontracted work required to develop new and improve existing facilities.
- Plan and prioritize tasks to maintain safe, well-maintained outdoor recreation areas, park facilities, and the Tourism Welcome Center, including oversight of County-provided vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Provide facility support to public recreation programs and special events held at County park facilities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Parks, Public Administration, or a closely related field, OR at least 5–7 years of progressive experience in a closely related field. Must possess High School Diploma or GED. Must obtain Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification within one 1 year of hire. Must obtain Maryland Pesticide Applicator’s License within one (1) year of hire. Ability to interact professionally with staff, contractors, and the general public. Proficiency with computers and software related to operations and reporting. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must pass background check and drug screening.
