What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Accountant position at Wicomico County?
Responsible for assisting with standard accounting functions including:
- Prepare and post journal entries, including grant-related entries;
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank accounts, and various funds;
- Track and reconcile grant revenue and expenditures; ensure compliance with requirements;
- Assist external auditors by providing reports, documentation, and support during audits;
- Coordinate with departments to gather financial data and resolve discrepancies;
- Support monthly and year-end closing processes;
- Maintain financial records and fixed asset schedules; and
- Assist with state and federal financial reporting requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and/or experience in Accounting (preferably governmental and/or public accounting); Good working knowledge of current accounting principles & practices; Grant Accounting Experience; Good verbal and written communication skills; Proficient computer skills and experience with spreadsheets; Ability to work well with a diverse group of people to include state, federal, and local officials, and independent auditors; Ability to handle confidential information; and Ability to pass background check and drug screening. A comparable amount of experience and training may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Pay: $56,404.00 - $67,638.00 per year
