Position Summary

The Structural Detailer is responsible for producing highly accurate fabrication and assembly drawings along with creating building blueprints and details used in the manufacturing of steel components for WHP’s custom fire training structures. This position is entirely on-site and combines CAD design with direct collaboration with fabrication teams and project managers under one roof. The ideal candidate will have experience with Revit, Autodesk Fusion 360, AutoCAD, and a strong working knowledge of steel fabrication and manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Make architectural floor plans from a customer approved conceptual plans.
• Create structural framing plans based off required openings and need for any special framing requirements.
• Incorporate customer specifications, project requirements, and field notes into 3D erection drawings.
• Ensure adherence to drafting standards, including dimensioning, tolerances, material specifications, and welding symbols.
• Prepare detailed 2D and 3D fabrication drawings for steel components such as stairways, ladders, guardrails, platforms, beams, columns, and panels.
• Create engineering drawings and models using Autodesk Fusion 360 and AutoCAD.
• Generate shop-ready documentation and CNC-ready files, including G-code or toolpaths via post-processing for automated equipment.
• Collaborate with shop personnel to clarify drawing details and resolve manufacturability issues during fabrication.
• Support the development of mock-ups and prototypes, and participate in problem-solving for quality and production challenges.
• Maintain and organize CAD files and drawing libraries for manufacturing and quoting use.

Education & Experience

Required:

• Associate Degree or technical training in drafting, manufacturing design, or engineering technology
• Minimum 1-2 years of professional experience in Revit

Preferred:

• Experience with structural steel, metal building systems, or accessory steel installation
• Familiarity with rendering/architectural software.
• Professional experience in CAD drafting in a steel, fabrication, or manufacturing environment
• Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Fusion 360
• Exposure to automated fabrication or CNC programming workflows

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

• Ability to prepare and interpret high-precision drawings and rough sketches
• Knowledge of structural steel materials and manufacturing processes
• Understanding of drafting standards, dimensioning techniques, and part detailing
• Basic knowledge of tool pathing, post-processing, and CNC-driven fabrication
• Proficiency in Microsoft/Google: Word, Excel, Teams
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize in a fast-paced production environment
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and technical judgment

Work Environment

• All work is performed in-house at WHP’s facility in Grandview, MO
• Position is office-based but requires regular interaction with the fabrication shop
• Fast-paced environment focused on custom manufacturing and project deadlines
