Sales Associate — Whitten Hardware
Memphis, Tennessee (Orange Mound) | On-site | Full-time and part-time positions available
Whitten Hardware has been part of Orange Mound since 1929. We sell tools, plumbing, electrical, paint, hardware, and the kind of stuff people need when something breaks at the house or on the job site. We are hiring sales associates to help our customers find what they came in for and to keep the store running smoothly.
This is a customer-first job. Most of your day is talking to people, answering questions, walking customers to the right aisle, ringing up sales, and helping out wherever the store needs a hand. Candidates who know how to cut glass, mix paint, cut keys, rekey locks and more will be considered before others. It is preferred but not required that you know about hardware on day one. If you are willing to learn, ask questions, and put the customer first, we will teach you the rest.
What the work looks like. Greeting customers when they walk in and asking how you can help. Answering questions about products and helping people find what they need. Ringing up sales at the register and handling cash, card, and check payments. Receiving and stocking merchandise when shipments come in. Keeping aisles, shelves, and displays clean and organized. Helping with inventory counts. Loading customer purchases into vehicles when needed. Backing up your teammates when the store gets busy.
Who we are looking for. Someone who genuinely likes people and does not mind talking to strangers all day. Someone who shows up on time and finishes what they start. Someone who can lift up to fifty pounds and stand for most of a shift. Retail experience is a plus but not required. Hardware experience is also a plus but not required. If you have worked at Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace, True Value, AutoZone, O'Reilly, Tractor Supply, or any kind of retail or contractor supply, we want to hear from you. If you have never worked retail but you are a hard worker who wants to learn a trade, we want to hear from you too.
What we offer. Starting pay of 12 to 16 dollars per hour depending on experience, with raises tied to performance and time on the job. Employee discount on store merchandise. Paid time off for full-time employees after ninety days. We promote from within first whenever possible.
Schedule. The store is open Monday through Saturday with shifts running between 8 AM and 5 PM.We have full-time positions of thirty-five to forty hours per week and part-time positions of fifteen to twenty-five hours per week.
