We are currently seeking an Intern to work with the Environmental team in our Mechanicsburg, PA office. The primary duties will be to support Senior Project Environmental Scientists and Engineers in a variety of tasks in the field of environmental design and compliance.
Responsibilities:
- State and federal environmental documentation (including NEPA preparation)
- Socioeconomic analysis (including environmental justice)
- Wetland delineations
- Environmental Compliance
- Stream assessments
- Threatened and endangered species habitat evaluations and surveys
- Clean Water Act Section 404/401 permitting
- Periodic travel (including overnight) may be required when assisting with field work, as needed
- Assist in conducting environmental site investigations, assessments, and surveys to sample, evaluate and analyze terrestrial ecosystems including, but not limited to, riverine, wetland, and upland landscapes
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning or similar field
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage time accordingly
- Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others
- Willingness to take on new challenges and learn more while working on these challenges
- Willingness to work in challenging outdoor environments, including high temperatures and steep terrain
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Experience working with ESRI ArcGIS software preferred
Physical Requirements (Essential Functions):
This position requires the ability to perform a variety of physical tasks in the field as part of the essential job functions. Duties may include:
- Walking and navigating across rough or uneven terrain such as mud, rocks, grass, dirt, steep hillsides, stream banks, heavily wooded areas, and other unpaved surfaces
- Performing physical activities such as bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing
- The work environment may include exposure to a range of environmental conditions, including high and low temperatures, precipitation, and other outdoor elements.
