Position Overview
An established accounting and advisory firm is seeking an experienced Tax Manager or Tax Director to lead complex tax engagements for high-net-worth individuals, families, professional service providers, and business owners. This role combines advanced tax compliance and planning, client relationship management, team leadership, and business development.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience advising clients with complex compensation structures, ownership interests, K-1 income, and multi-entity tax considerations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage client relationships and provide strategic tax planning and advisory services.
- Review complex federal and multistate tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120-S, and 709.
- Advise on high-net-worth taxation, trusts and estates, S corporations, partnerships, investment entities, and professional practice ownership.
- Address multistate taxation, partner compensation, buy-in/buy-out arrangements, K-1 allocations, retirement planning, and entity structuring.
- Conduct technical tax research and document recommendations for complex tax matters.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop tax staff and senior associates.
- Oversee multiple engagements, budgets, deadlines, billing, and quality control.
- Coordinate with attorneys, wealth advisors, and other external professionals.
- Identify tax-saving opportunities and contribute to client retention, business development, and practice growth.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; MST, JD, or LLM in Taxation preferred.
- Active CPA license or EA certification required.
- Manager: 7 years of progressive public accounting tax experience.
- Director: Significant experience managing complex engagements, leading teams, advising high-net-worth clients, and developing client relationships.
- Strong technical expertise in individual, partnership, S corporation, trust, gift tax, and investment partnership returns.
- Experience with multistate and multi-entity taxation; foreign-related tax returns is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and tax research platforms; CCH Axcess preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, client service, and analytical skills.
