JOB DESCRIPTION: Resource/Title I Paraprofessional 

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The Resource/Title I Paraprofessional is responsible for providing support to the Title I intervention program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for improving students' success in basic academics (reading and math); relieving teachers of clerical tasks; and assisting students by modeling the skills necessary to perform assignments.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Resource/Title I Paraprofessional:

  1. Administers a variety of assigned activities (e.g. tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc.) for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom. *
  2. Attends meetings (e.g., in-service presentations and staff meetings) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. *
  3. Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives. *
  4. Evaluates students during the course of the school day (e.g. completion of assignments, life skills, response sequence, etc.) for the purpose of taking action and/or providing referral for resolution. *
  5. Maintains a variety of materials (e.g. instructional materials, files, records, charts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reference, and meeting mandated requirements. *
  6. Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of ensuring students are in a safe and appropriate environment. *
  7. Promotes good study habits for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes. *
  8. Manages a variety of assigned activities for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. *
  9. Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive school environment. *
  10. Provides instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. reading, spelling, self-esteem, behavioral skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP plans, and ensuring students success in school all under the supervision of assigned teacher. *
  11. Provides adapted classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher (e.g., reading circles, one-on-one math instruction, etc.) for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives. *
  12. Provides feedback of observations for the purpose of informing teachers and administrators of student progress. *
  13. Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources for the purpose of solving problems, providing information, and directing to other sources. *
  14. Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, school drills, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. *
  15. Tutors students on assigned class work for the purpose of providing ongoing support in the completion of work assignments. *
  16. Follows the policies and procedures of the school and the District. *
  17. Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility, such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately and presenting a good role model. *
  18. Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to use effective communication skills; ability to use time effectively; good organizational skills; ability to maintain a positive relationship with other staff by collaborating and working cooperatively with them (including supervisors); ability to operate standard office equipment and software applications; ability to prepare and maintain accurate records; knowledge of instructional techniques; knowledge of safety practices and procedures; knowledge of conflict resolution; knowledge of child development/behavior; ability to maintain a clam demeanor; ability to maintain confidentiality; and ability to meet deadlines and schedules.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

Mandatory:                 Minimum of high school education or GED.

 

Preferred:                   1 years of experience working in a school is preferred.

-                Strength: to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 40 or more pounds on a frequent basis.

-                Environmental Requirements: encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work outdoors and indoors.

-                Mental Requirements: read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile, and coordinate information and records.

-                Additional Work Conditions and Physical Abilities: Requires travel to multiple sites.

EVALUATION

-       Evaluation of this position shall be by the Principal/Asst. Principal(s).
