Position Summary:
The PAS Team Leader at Whitfield Regional Hospital plays a key role in supporting the PAS Supervisor in managing daily operations of the Patient Access Services department. This position ensures accurate and efficient patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and financial clearance while promoting a culture of compassion, compliance, and service excellence. The Team Leader serves as a liaison between front-line staff and leadership, helping to maintain high standards of performance and patient satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Staff Support
- Provide daily guidance and support to PAS staff across all shifts.
- Assist with training, mentoring, and onboarding of new employees.
- Monitor staff performance and assist with coaching and corrective actions.
- Ensure adequate staffing and workflow coverage during peak hours and absences.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee registration and scheduling processes for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services.
- Ensure accuracy of patient demographics, insurance information, and authorization requirements.
- Support financial clearance efforts including pre-registration and point-of-service collections.
- Troubleshoot and resolve registration or billing-related issues in collaboration with Revenue Cycle teams.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure adherence to HIPAA, EMTALA, CMS, and hospital-specific policies.
- Participate in internal audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain current knowledge of Meditech Expanse workflows and payer requirements.
Customer Service & Communication
- Promote a patient-first culture in all interactions.
- Handle escalated patient concerns with professionalism and empathy.
- Collaborate with clinical departments to support patient flow and minimize delays.
- Communicate effectively with PAS Supervisor and other hospital departments.
Reporting & Documentation
- Assist in compiling and analyzing performance metrics and departmental reports.
- Document staff issues, workflow challenges, and improvement opportunities.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to strategic planning.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, associate degree or higher preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in patient access, registration, or healthcare administration.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Meditech Expanse and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced hospital environment and manage multiple priorities.
Working Conditions:
- Hospital-based setting with frequent interaction with patients, staff, and providers.
- May require evening, weekend, or holiday shifts depending on departmental needs.
