LABORATORY SUPERVISOR

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Ability to adequately do the following:

· Perform the duties of a medical technologist (generalist).

· Work under the direction of the administrative and medical laboratory directors.

· Work closely with the administrative director, the technologists, technicians, and

assistants.

· Work in all areas of the laboratory and in patient areas.

· Supervise the overall technical operations of the laboratory.

· Be subject to frequent interruptions.

· Be willing to work beyond normal working hours, take emergency call when

necessary and be available either on site or by electrical means.

· Cope with possible subjection to infectious diseases and substances.

· Perform certain clerical duties.

· Assist administrative director in maintenance and implementation of laboratory’s ongoing quality assurance/quality improvement program.

· Meets regularly with the Administrative Director of the Laboratory. Reports problems in a timely manner.

· Report laboratory results to those individuals who are authorized to receive results.

· Communicate effectively and deal tactfully with physicians, other hospital personnel , fellow department personnel, patients, and the general public.

· Maintain adequate stock and supply levels.

· Attend appropriate inservice activities and meetings

· Other miscellaneous duties as directed by the administrative or medical director, within the scope of training and ability.

Education and experience:

· Successful completion in an accredited college or university, of a course of study which meets all academic requirements for a bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences.

· Must have at least four years experience as a registered or certified medical technologist and preferably two additional years in a supervisory capacity.

· Must possess adequate knowledge to work in and supervise the following areas:

1. Specimen collection 5. Microbiology 9. Routine & Preventive maintenance

2. Chemistry 6. Parasitology 10. Hematology

3. Urinalysis 7. Serology 11. Quality Control

4. Blood Bank 8. Coagulation 12. Quality assessment/Quality improvement
