JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Must possess the ability to perform the following:- Adhere to the treatment plan established by the Occupational Therapist.
- Motivate patients to participate in therapy treatment.
- Adhere to clinical policies and procedures in the overall delivery of patient care standards of practice.
- Document legibly and understandably utilizing only standard abbreviations and grammar.
- Communicate effectively with supervisor and staff.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to assist as needed in providing patient care coverage.
- Organize area and schedule to ensure the maximum time is utilized to provide direct patient care and accomplish job responsibilities within the necessary time frames.
- Follow company facility safety policies.
- Willingness to work beyond normal working hours when necessary to effectively and efficiently perform duties, demonstrating commitment to organization and community.
QUALIFICATIONS:- Must have completed a program of Occupational Therapy Assistant.
- Must hold and maintain a current and valid license by the State of Alabama Board of Occupational Therapy as a licensed Occupational Therapist Assistant.
- Maintain CPR certification.
- Must be capable of performing the job duties of this position.
- Must be able to relate positively and professionally to patients, families, and outside agencies and work cooperatively with co-workers.
- Certified by the National Board Certification of Occupational Therapy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:- Perform all physical requirements of a full workday.
- Cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position and set a proper example of such.
- Must be in good general health and capable of maintaining regular attendance.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics allowing all requirements of position be met effectively with support personnel and agencies.
- Must be capable of performing the essential job functions of this position with or without accommodation and be able to pass a post-employment exam, if required.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contributes to Occupational Therapist’s effectiveness by identifying patient care issues, providing information and commentary; recommending options and courses of action; implementing Occupational Therapy directives.
- Assesses patient health by interviewing patients, notes diagnosis of patient and takes all precautions observing indications and contraindications.
- Assesses abnormal conditions by reviewing Occupational Therapists interpretations of patient evaluations and test results.
- Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
- Performs therapeutic procedures by administering manual exercises; instruction, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical and daily living activities; and in using supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses; applies agents such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, hot packs, cold packs, ice massage as directed.
- Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimes, answering all questions.
- Checks frequently on patients during treatment period to satisfy patient needs.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, adhering to infection control policies and protocols, returning all equipment and supplies to proper storage area.
- Maintains legal and accreditation compliance by adhering to policy positions concerning federal, state, and local regulations, anticipating emerging issues.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Enhances Occupational Therapy and hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities.
