The Optometric Technician performs preliminary testing for physicians and dispenses and orders contact lenses.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Perform preliminary and special testing for physicians
- Gathers exam focused, comprehensive histories
- Dispense, clean, and order contact lenses.
- Instruct patients in wearing and care of contact lenses.
- Keep records of contact lenses dispensed and received in order to review bills or approve payments for devices.
- Assist in the optical dispensary when necessary
Minimum Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous experience or training in this or similar position.
Minimum Background Requirements
- Position requires good understanding of optometric practice and patient care.
- Knowledge of medical instrumentation and its proper care and usage needed.
- Ability to communicate with patients, co-workers and supervisor is critical.
- Must be willing to help in all areas and understand the need for efficient use of time.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to write legibly.
- Must be able to communicate via phone.
- Must have manual dexterity to work with optical tools.
- Must be able to read and enter data into the computer
