POSITION DESCRIPTION
AREA: Food Service
REPORTS TO: Food Service Director
SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT:
Performs skilled functions and activity of cooking and baking in large quantities; maintains the food service facility in an orderly, safe, and sanitary condition; and performs other related work as assigned. It is the expectation of the District that each staff member will put the safety, health, and well-being of students at the forefront of all actions, job responsibilities, and decisions; and undertake all duties in alignment with the District’s Strategic Plan and Board policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possesses high school diploma or its equivalent (GED).
- One year of successful experience as a cook in an institutional or commercial kitchen.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence.
- Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely in both oral and written communications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated knowledge of food preparation, kitchen equipment, and safety.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic, record keeping, and report development procedures.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and work well under time and space pressures.
- Demonstrated good judgment and a positive representation of the School District.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):
- Food Preparation: Cooks and prepares food(s); assists in the preparation and serving of all food in the cafeteria.
- Sanitation: Cleans kitchen, utensils, prep and serving area; assists in the disposal and proper storage of unused food.
- Inventory & Portion Control: Stores food and assists in maintaining inventory; asserts proper control(s) as to daily food quantities.
- Service: Dispenses food at the assigned location(s); handles ala carte duties and money.
- Student Interaction: Supervises and assists student workers with lunchroom duties; prepares special diets as directed.
- Compliance: Honors Board and administrative directions; performs other duties as required by the food service supervisor and/or administration.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Calculator, cash register, POS system, copy machine, fax machine, telephone/voice mail, oven, dishwasher, and other kitchen equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors. The employee may work near or with moving mechanical parts. The employee may work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as degreasers and sprays. The employee is frequently exposed to hot, cold, wet, and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, stand, travel, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are infrequently available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and must maintain attentiveness intensity. The employee is frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communication. Memory, reasoning, and exercising judgment are constantly used/required on the job. Mathematics, estimating, and problem solving are frequently used/required on the job.
