POSITION TITLE: Interim Assistant Principal
LOCATION: Whitefish Middle School
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
The Whitefish School District seeks educators with a track record of raising student achievement to join a team dedicated to providing a deeper learning instructional program to all students. SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
Serves as the administrative head of the school and supervises all building employees in the absence of the principal. Assists the principal in all aspects of building operations, including managing building staff, class schedules, staff attendance, coordination of substitute teachers, and resolving building problems. Manages interscholastic sports, coaching staff, game scheduling, and facilities. Provide leadership enabling students to develop a love of learning and to enjoy fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, psychological, and physical growth and maturation.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education: A Master's degree in Educational Leadership or a related field.
- Licensure: A valid Montana Educator License with an Administrator/Principal endorsement.
- Experience: Minimum five (5) years of successful teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Middle School Expertise: Minimum of three (3) years serving as an educator or administrator specifically at the middle school level.
- Educational Leadership Experience: Minimum of three (3) years demonstrating effective leadership within a K-12 school environment.
- Visionary Leadership: Capacity to inspire others toward achieving high standards in student behavior and scholastic excellence.
- Student Growth: Deep knowledge of adolescent development with the skill to engage meaningfully with students in this age group.
- Effective Communication: Proficient in delivering precise information through professional correspondence, reports, and public interaction.
- Operational Excellence: Strong organizational aptitude, including the ability to navigate high-pressure tasks while protecting confidential data.
- Knowledge: Understanding of MHSA rules, Title IX regulations, and school law.
- Activities Coordination: Proven competency in managing and overseeing athletic programs and extracurricular school events.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):
- Instructional & Data Leadership: Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating instructional programs and activities. Analyzes student performance data as a basis for curriculum improvement and staff development.
- Student Culture & Discipline: Administers the student discipline program to encourage positive performance, using positive behavior intervention techniques and restorative justice practices. Maintains fair, just, and consistent discipline records while ensuring due process respects the dignity of students and adults.
- Staff Supervision: Assists the building principal in the supervision, guidance, and evaluation of certified and classified staff members as assigned.
- MTSS & Student Support: Actively participates as a team member, role model, and leader of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.
- Community & Stakeholder Relations: Counsels with students, parents, and staff to resolve educational or behavioral concerns. Maintains positive, collaborative relationships with parents, family members, and the broader community.
- Policy & Compliance: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Board policies, administrative rules, regulations, state directives, and the student handbook.
- Transition Coordination: Works collaboratively with other schools within the District to ensure consistent K-12 student transitions.
- Event Supervision: Coordinates and supervises academic, behavioral, extracurricular events in collaboration with the principal.
ACTIVITIES DIRECTION
- Event Management: Schedules games, secures officials, arranges student transportation, and prepares facilities for all middle school extra curricular events.
- Compliance: Ensures all Flathead County Middle School guidelines, MHSA guidelines and district policies and procedures are followed regarding student eligibility, physicals, and safety.
- Personnel: Recruits, assigns, trains, and evaluates coaches and volunteer staff.
- Budget & Inventory: Develops and oversees the annual extra curricular budgets, orders equipment, and manages inventory.
EQUIPMENT USED: A variety of electronic and technology devices, copier, telephone/voice mail, fax.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee frequently will work irregular or extended hours while performing the duties of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position involves irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, to attend and supervise games and school events.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet environments.
MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are infrequently available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity. The employee is frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communications.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT & EVALUATION
- Terms: School year working days as set annually by the Board of Trustees. Salary, benefits, and other working conditions are negotiated by the Whitefish Education Association (WEA) and assigned by the Administration.
- Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's Policy on the Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
