POSITION SUMMARY
Whitefish School District seeks a Health Enhancement Teacher to join a team dedicated to providing a deeper learning instructional program. Educators in our district are leaders who play an integral role in ensuring student success through the support of school culture, the development and instruction of a rigorous curriculum, and the use of data to drive daily practice. The primary goal is to enable students to reach their potential for intellectual, emotional, psychological, and physical growth.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education/Certification: Must be appropriately licensed and endorsed in accordance with state statutes and Board of Public Education rules.
- Specific Endorsements: K-12 Health Enhancement endorsement
- Core Competencies: Ability to handle stressful situations, maintain confidentiality, and effectively manage time and responsibilities.
- Communication Skills: Ability to write reports and business correspondence and effectively respond to questions from students, parents, and the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):
The teacher is responsible for planning and developing a course of study that aligns with District guidelines and Montana state standards.
- Curriculum & Instruction: Design and deliver standards-based lesson plans utilizing a variety of instructional strategies—including direct instruction, small and large group instruction, collaborative projects, demonstrations, presentations, and digital resources—to effectively engage and support students across diverse academic levels and learning styles.
- Physical Education Leadership: Design and implement comprehensive programs that promote students’ physical development, overall wellness, and social growth. Provide instruction in individual, adaptive, and team sports, applying strong knowledge of sport-specific techniques, skill progression, and inclusive practices to support diverse learners.
- Student Assessment & Evaluation: Develop and administer assessments, assignments, and performance-based evaluations to measure student learning and skill development. Conduct testing in accordance with school policies, and provide timely, accurate feedback to support student growth and achievement.
- Classroom Management & Student Supervision: Establish and maintain a structured, respectful learning environment that promotes positive behavior and student accountability. Implement appropriate disciplinary measures, when necessary, in accordance with school policies. Provide active supervision of the girls’ locker room to ensure student safety, privacy, and adherence to school expectations.
- Student Support: Provide guidance and intervention for students experiencing academic or behavioral challenges. Collaborate with counselors, special education staff, and other professionals to address learning disabilities and social-emotional needs.
- Safety & Supervision: Prioritize student safety and well-being in all settings. Provide active supervision during classes and school-related activities, including monitoring the gym facilities, hallways, study periods, lunch periods, girls’ locker rooms, assemblies and other school activities during the school day.
- Administrative Responsibilities: Maintain accurate and confidential records of student academic and physical progress, attendance, and social development. Oversee the organization, inventory, maintenance, and distribution of school-owned equipment and instructional materials.
- Professional Engagement: Participate in staff and faculty meetings, professional development sessions, educational conferences, and ongoing training to support continuous professional growth and instructional effectiveness.
- Collaboration & Compliance: Partner with parents and guardians to support student success, including coordinating specialized interventions when necessary. Fulfill mandated reporting responsibilities in accordance with state law and district policy.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Effectively operate and maintain a wide range of instructional and fitness equipment, including electronic and digital devices, copiers, telephone and voicemail systems, gymnasium and outdoor recreation equipment, weight training and cardiovascular machines, music systems, timers, and stopwatches to support safe, engaging, and well-organized learning environments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in both indoor and outdoor settings while effectively managing strict timelines within the school's bell schedule. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee frequently will work irregular or extended hours while performing the duties of this job. The employee maintains direct responsibility for students’ safety, well-being, and academic performance. Adapt to environments with moderate to high noise levels, ensuring consistent supervision, organization, and instructional effectiveness
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, and stand; twist at neck and waist; kneel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet environments. May be required to lift or move up to 20 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are usually available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
School year working days as set by the Board of Trustees. Salary, benefits and other working conditions as negotiated by the WEA and as assigned by the Administration.

Performance of said duties will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
