Director of Innovation

With more than 40 years of industry leadership and a strong foundation for growth, the company is seeking a forward-thinking, strategic leader to drive innovation across the organization. The Director of Innovation will champion new ideas, technologies, and processes that enhance project delivery, improve operational efficiency, and position the company at the forefront of the construction industry.

Reporting to the President, this role partners across operations, preconstruction, technology, finance, HR and business development to identify opportunities, pilot solutions, and scale impactful innovations. The Director will lead initiatives that improve how we plan, build, and deliver—ensuring the organization continues to evolve, adapt, and grow in a rapidly changing industry.

Role Expectations

Lead and develop people and culture by:

Drive innovation strategy and execution by:

• Developing and executing a company-wide innovation strategy aligned with business goals and long-term growth
• Identifying emerging technologies, tools, and trends that can enhance construction processes, safety, quality, and efficiency
• Leading pilot programs and scaling successful solutions across the organization
• Championing process improvements that streamline workflows, reduce waste, and increase productivity
• Creating structured pathways for idea generation, evaluation, and implementation

Enhance operational performance through innovation by:

• Partnering with operations and project teams to integrate innovative solutions into active projects
• Leveraging data, technology, and best practices to improve decision-making and project outcomes
• Measuring and tracking the impact of innovation initiatives through KPIs and performance metrics
• Driving continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and applying them across the organization

Strengthen partnerships and industry leadership by:

• Building relationships with technology partners, industry groups, and academic institutions to stay at the forefront of innovation
• Serving as a visible leader who promotes the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence
• Representing White-Spunner as a forward-thinking, solutions-driven organization

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, business, information systems, data analytics, or related field required; MBA strongly preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in construction, technology, operations, business or innovation leadership roles.
• Proven experience improving, implementing, and scaling company tools, systems, or digital platforms
• Strong understanding of construction technologies (e.g., project management platforms, VDC/BIM, field technology, ERP systems)
• Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and decision-making skills.

Working Conditions

Normal professional office setting and some on-site field work. Evening and/or weekend work. Travel required.

Typical Physical Needs

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. May need to climb stairs, ladders and/or scaffolding and lift up to 30 lbs.
