What are the responsibilities and job description for the Visual Impairment Teacher position at White Settlement ISD?
Visual Impairment Teacher (TVI)
Primary Purpose:
Provide specialized instructional services to students with visual impairments to support access to the educational environment and promote academic, social, and independent living success. Collaborate with campus staff, families, and related service providers to implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and accommodations for students with visual impairments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Valid Texas certification as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI)
- Knowledge of Braille instruction, assistive technology, and accommodations for visually impaired students preferred
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and multidisciplinary teams
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide direct and consultative instructional services to students with visual impairments
- Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and assist in developing appropriate goals, accommodations, and modifications
- Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments as appropriate
- Support students in the use of Braille, assistive technology, orientation materials, and adaptive equipment
- Collaborate with general education teachers and staff regarding instructional strategies and classroom accommodations
- Maintain accurate records, progress monitoring, and compliance documentation
- Assist students in developing independent living, organizational, and self-advocacy skills
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education requirements
Working Conditions:
- Travel between campuses may be required
- Frequent interaction with students, staff, and parents
- Ability to lift and transport instructional materials and adaptive equipment as needed
Terms of Employment:
Salary, work calendar, and benefits established by the Board of Trustees and district compensation plan.
