Department: Special Programs / Student Services
Reports to: Campus Principal and Director of Special Education or Behavior Services Coordinato
Primary Purpose
Provide direct behavioral and instructional support to students who exhibit significant emotional or behavioral challenges that interfere with learning. Implement evidence-based interventions and positive behavior supports under the direction of district and campus specialists to promote academic and social success.
Qualifications
Education / Certification
-
High school diploma or GED required
-
Minimum of 48 college hours or paraprofessional certification (required if position is Title I funded)

Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or related field preferred

CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or equivalent training preferred
Special Knowledge / Skills
-
Knowledge of behavior intervention techniques and de-escalation strategies

Understanding of behavior data collection methods and reinforcement systems

Ability to work effectively with students exhibiting emotional and behavioral disabilities
-
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
-
Ability to remain calm and consistent in crisis situations
Experience
-
Experience working with students in special education or behavior settings preferred

Experience in implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and social-emotional learning supports preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Behavioral Support
-
Implement individualized and small-group behavior intervention plans as designed by the Behavior Specialist or Behavior Services team.

Support teachers and students during classroom instruction, transitions, and crisis situations.

Assist in monitoring and documenting student progress through data collection systems.

Reinforce replacement behaviors, coping strategies, and positive social skills.

Assist with student safety interventions, including crisis de-escalation and CPI procedures as trained.

Support re-entry plans and restorative practices for students returning from disciplinary or therapeutic settings.
Collaboration
-
Communicate regularly with classroom teachers, administrators, and behavior specialists regarding student progress and needs.

Participate in team meetings, including ARD and RTI/MTSS sessions when requested.

Maintain confidentiality and comply with district, state, and federal student privacy laws (FERPA, IDEA).
Professionalism

Maintain emotional control under stress.

Follow all district policies, including those governing student restraint, seclusion, and data documentation.

Participate in required district and campus professional development.
Working Conditions

Frequent standing, walking, and intervening physically with students as needed.

Exposure to potential physical aggression or emotional outbursts.

Regular campus travel within the district may be required.
