RESIDENT SERVICE DIRECTOR / REGISTERED NURSE

FUNCTION:
This position is part of the Eagle Mountain Assisted Living Management Team responsible for the creation of resident-focused, high performance, high-commitment work teams that support the philosophy of “Caring for the Whole Person.” The RSD is responsible for overseeing the quality delivery of resident services. The RSD recruits and supervises the LPN’s.
QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Minimum Qualifications: Must demonstrate competency in the following areas:
- Candidate should be a Registered Nurse
- Experience in senior resident services
- Experience in staff supervision
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organization and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate support and understanding of the community’s philosophy of the five domains of health (physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and social)
- Medication supervision (within the scope of the state regulations)
- Read, write, speak and understand the English language.
- Freedom from illegal use of drugs
- Freedom from use and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace
- Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.
- Demonstrates effective time management skills.
- As required by state law, a valid driver’s license and proof of insurability required
- Must enjoy working with the seniors and able to accept constructive criticism.
- Ability to interact with residents who are highly susceptible to common illness without posing additional health risks.
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks/responsibilities and complete duties/projects within the time allotted.
- Ability to define and solve problems, including the ability to collect and interpret data from a variety of sources.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Must be able to express yourself adequately in writing or orally with residents, family members, staff, visitors and volunteers.
- Must be able to track budget and be able to stay within the monthly/yearly budget.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment which includes, but not limited to, personal computer, copier, fax, type writer and be able to operate an automobile and van.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with the Administrator to build relationships and strong communication with residents and families to aid in their adjustment to EMAL, identify needs and problems of the residents.
- Work to ensure good communication and understanding of the residents.
- The RN in conjunction with the physician, shall be responsible for the preparation, coordination and implementation of the health care services plan portion of the residents occupancy admission agreement.
- The RN shall review and oversee all LPN personnel.
- In accordance with the staffing plan, serve as an LPN fulfilling all resident care responsibilities as required by staffing plan/or business needs.
- Responsible for the orientation, training, communication, goal setting, supervision and evaluation of all LPN staff members. Meet with LPNs to discuss performance issues and complete 90 day and annual performance appraisals under the guidance and direction of the Administrator. All associate paperwork, reviews, payroll, appraisals, documentation must be reviewed/approved by the Administrator before submission to Human Resource or payroll.
- Assist the Management Team in maintaining a residential environment, which focuses on Caring for the Whole Person.
- Ensure successful implementation of our Operations policies and procedures and programs within the guidelines of state regulations and Eagle Mountain Assisted Living Policies.
- Professional intervention in resident needs as indicated or needed.
- Assists in orientating new residents to the community by introducing them to staff members and showing them around the community.
- Inform Administrator of any concerns related to the residence, residents or staff. Inform the Administrator of any concerns or changes related to the residents’ physical, cognitive or emotional well being.
- Recruit and select LPNs.
- Provide initial and on going training for the LPNs.
- Responsible for the daily scheduling of the LPNs, call in coverage, and work/shift daily assignments.
- Ensure that appropriate associate counseling and disciplinary actions occur with approval from the Administrator.
- Ensure that staff turnover is minimized and meet annualized percentage goal.
- Responsible for coordination and implementation of specific core programs, such as hydration, fall prevention, exercise, weekly wellness checks and others as identified. Identify and share resident success stories and best practices to demonstrate the impact of our wellness programs.
- Participate in family conferences as needed to discuss the residents’ status and review appropriate service plan, medication regiment.
- Meet with residents daily to encourage communication and to gain an understanding of their needs.
- Coordinate physician communications and visits that occur while on duty. Document all physician contact in the resident’s service record.
- Provide coverage in the Resident Services department, working as a LPN and performing all job duties as necessary.
- Order all resident medications on a monthly basis, check Medication Assistance Records (MARs) when new medications arrive, contact the pharmacy regarding changes with medications, and conduct QA audits of the Medication Assistant Records and medication cart as needed.
- Schedule all residents appointments both medical and podiatry, dentist, and therapies. Work with Resident Assistants to ensure residents are aware of and dressed and ready for appointments ahead of time.
- Arrange transportation for residents as needed.
- Create and maintain service records for new residents and work with families to assure all required paperwork is provided including the following:
- Proper creation of Resident Records upon move-in
- Documentation of all medications
- Proper notation on Resident Service notes
- Maintain outside provider laboratory reports
- Maintain reports including incident, accident and death report
- Complete transfer forms
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
