Title:   Endoscopy Technician                Job Code:  500363 Endoscopy

Reports to:    Nurse Manager                   FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Position Summary                                                                                                                                                                             

 

The Endoscopy Technician performs patient care and non-patient care functions under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse.

 Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:                                                                                                                                                                             

  1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
  2. Demonstrates/articulates an understanding of the responsibilities of the position
  3. Verbalizes and applies knowledge of current department and hospital Policies and Procedures.
  4. Attends staff meetings or equivalent as requested/required to update knowledge related to current department/hospital issues.
  5. Attends inservices as required/requested to update knowledge.
  6. Completes annual department/hospital competency requirements and documents appropriately on Competency/Education Record.
  7. Able to prioritize workload.
  8. Prioritizes, organizes and manages assignment within a normal work period.
  9. Implements patient safety measures as needed(Risk fall program, etc.)
  10. Responds appropriately in emergency patient situations
  11. Identifies malfunctioning equipment, tags and returns to appropriate department
  12. Escorting of patient to procedure room and assisting patient with changing into patient gown.
  13. Placing patient on procedure table connecting to monitoring equipment.
  14. Assists with transport of patient to the recovery room.
  15. Set up of procedure room and scopes post procedure.
  16. Disinfecting of scopes and endoscopes instruments in procedure rooms.
  17. Maintaining clerical supplies for unit.
  18. Stamping patient charts.
  19. Assist with weekly storeroom and direct purchase order
  20. Restocking procedure rooms and recovery area.
  21. Checks procedure and recovery rooms between cases and resupplies as necessary.
  22. Actively participates in the Quality Improvement Program.
  23. Escorting patients for discharge.
  24. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

 Education & Experience Requirements                                                                                                                                                                             

High School Diploma/Equivalency

Previous experience in hospital or patient care area preferred.

 Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment                                                                                                                                                                             

 
  • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
  • Must be physically able to transport heavy objects more than 50 lbs, and lift patients of all weights with a minimum of one (1) assist or assistive device; perform difficult manipulative arm – hand steadiness and hand – eye coordination skills; walk and stand for a minimum of 3 hours. Must be physically able to meet all regulatory requirements 100% of the time.
  • Must have the ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruption and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a time frequently. Individual must be able to understand theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks given during the course of a day constantly.
  • Must be able to detect objects closely and far away and hears normal sounds with some background noises: communicates effectively (verbally, written) in English 100% of the time.

Salary : $40,837 - $61,255
