Salary: State Salary schedule for teachers

Reports to: EC Director / Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Supervises: N/A

Work Week Schedule: Monday - Friday

Work Hours: 19 hours or less per week

Months per year: 10

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide high-quality specially designed instruction for all pre-k-aged students receiving special education services in community environments as required on their IEPs
  • Coordinate with DHHS Child Development Service Agency case managers to assist families with transitioning disability services from IDEA Part C to Part B before the child's 3rd birthday.
  • Maintain open and clear communication with school EC personnel, community childcare directors, Head Start staff, and parents as required quarterly regarding students' progress toward IEP goals
  • Provide technical assistance and resources to the adults who oversee the daily care of identified pre-K students to help reinforce the students' personal, social, and developmental needs for school readiness.
  • Organize and maintain files necessary for students' IEP records, service logs, and program success.
  • Provide IEP teams with recommendations for updating IEP goals and services based on collected data from multiple sources
  • Complete tasks as deemed appropriate by the program administrator(s).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Provide data-informed recommendations to IEP teams for individualized goals and objectives for each Pre-K student served.
  • Knowledge of the characteristics and impact of developmental delays and disabilities have on children's educational progress
  • Understanding of how poverty, trauma, and adverse childhood experiences can influence child behavior, learning, and school readiness.
  • Knowledge of effective strategies and supports that promote positive outcomes for young children. 
  • Ability to model and support positive behavior interventions and maintain engagement in diverse, off-site classroom environments.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Prepare creative, developmentally appropriate lessons that meet the stated IEP objectives and, as much as possible, meet the needs, interests, and abilities of young students.
  2. Maintain appropriate lesson plans, tracking logs, and travel records, and be able to produce written evidence of instructional preparation and service delivery when requested by administration.
  3. Consistently meet and instruct assigned students at designated off-school sites (e.g., Head Start, daycares, community preschools) at scheduled times.
  4. Collaborate with community childcare teachers to co-create a preschool classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables students to achieve learning objectives.
  5. Provide specialized instruction that meets the unique developmental needs of all assigned students.
  6. Establish clear objectives and goals for all developmental interventions, units, and activities, and effectively communicate objectives to community partners and parents.
  7. Plan for and utilize early childhood instructional methods, adaptive resources, and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
  8. Maintain accurate and complete records, including IEP progress reports and service documentation, as required by ECPS policy and NCDPI.
  9. Assist community partners with the implementation of positive behavior supports and rules related to student conduct, maintaining order in a fair and equitable manner.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Physical Demands: Light to medium physical work required occasionally, including lifting up to 30 pounds (adaptive equipment, instructional bins, or lifting/positioning young children). Frequent driving between off-site community locations is required.
  • Work Environment: Inside private daycare, Head Start, and community environments; direct contact with district staff, community childcare providers, students, and parents.
