Junior Design Engineer

The Junior Design Engineer is an entry-level position for a full pledged Engineering professional. The Junior Engineer works under the direct supervision of an Engineer. The Junior Design Engineer will assist and support the Engineer with design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, estimating and process improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Research, design and create new products.

• Organize and maintain existing engineering records.

• Construct prototypes and confirm designs with design/purchasing team.

• Perform physical testing on engineering prototypes.

• Ensure components and assemblies adhere to applicable industry and business standards.

• Originate and/or review structural analyses, prototype test processes, operations procedures, and reports using computer-aided engineering (CAE) and appropriate computer software.

• Review and verify design drawings and other technical documentation prepared by others to ensure correctness and accuracy in form, fit and function.

• Develop virtual models of different designs using computer software.

• Find out the manufacturing requirements by examining materials and production costs.

• Present designs and perform demonstrations of product prototypes for the approval of clients.

• Evaluate the function, safety and appearance of products to ensure they have a practical design.

• Assist engineering staff in the design and development of systems and components. Interface with engineering staff effectively to ensure the form, fit and function of designs while also working with fabrication managers to ensure cost effectiveness and manufacturability of designs.

• Collaborate with the engineering staff to produce design sketches and drawings in accordance with applicable standards.

• Review and verify design drawings and other technical documentation prepared by others to ensure correctness and accuracy in form, fit and function.

• Create detailed designs with computer-aided design (CAD) software

• Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality

• Specify dimensions, materials, and procedures.

• Prepare engineering drawings that detail plans and specifications.

• Create detailed designs with computer-aided design (CAD) software.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Well organized and highly motivated

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

• Experience in SolidWorks

• Design and drafting capabilities

• Understanding of current cutting tool technology

• Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

0-3 years’ experience in mechanical design preferred
